are you comparing a memorial to honor the murder of innocent people to a memorial to honor those who committed those murders?

Irrelevant. Both statues are older than the Third Reich*. Why not destroy Auschwitz for condos and a mall? Why commemorate fucking Nazis using LW logic?

You don't get it. The statues are a problem because they are glorifying statues. What is in Germany is history preserved in its darkest unglorifying form. True history. How would the Jews be offended by that? I wouldn't doubt they'd be involved in preserving it that way. Put up a statue of Lee that isn't sugar-coated. Heck, it's kind of obvious it seems like quite a few Southerners these days hold him in reverence. That's a big part of the problem.
