Gates Orders Measures to Protect Hawaii From North Korea Missile

June 18 (Bloomberg) -- Defense Secretary Robert Gates said he has ordered the U.S. military to take defensive measures should North Korea attempt to fire a ballistic missile toward Hawaii.

“I think we are in a good position, should it become necessary, to protect American territory,” Gates told reporters at the Pentagon today.


I wonder if Obama will say he is “deeply concerned,” but thinks that we can still negotiate with North Korea’s mad man.

Biden said we would see this president tested. I’m thinking Kim Jong Il has tested him repeatedly and found him wanting. It will be interesting to see how Obama responds to this. Obama will want to pretend like he didn’t hear anything, but the responsibility of his position demands some reaction. Will it be more stern words? Another meeting with the UN? Gates has sent interceptors to the island, so if their missiles aren’t a complete joke we may have to shoot em down. However, this will do nothing to deter future freak outs like this. Closing his eyes and ignoring them sure hasn’t worked out for Obama.

I was just trying to help. Your comment sounded like something that someone with a marginal sense of humor might say when they're drunk (with the alcohol blocking what little sense of humor they had in the arsenal).

If you were sober when you wrote that, it's obviously much more troublesome...

I think we should shoot down there missile if it comes anywhere close to the islands. Remember pearl harbor sneak attack? You never know.

There was no "sneak attack" on Pearl Harbor.

We KNEW the Japanese were there .. and so did Churchill .. and he said so.

ok, so even if they knew (via intelligence) and chose not to act so as to push us into the war.. the Japanese plan was a sneak attack. its the mantra of Asian war strategy to gain upper hand.

I know its a total long shot, but I feel we should shoot down any missiles that comes near our territory... especially from a rouge country like NK.

Is this racist to think that all asians prefer the sneak attack?

I guess NK is about the only Aisian country left that does not already owm a major piece of us.
