Why wouldn't politics progress when society has progressed? Whether talking about old age pensions or public schools as society progresses we institute programs representing that progress.

If we go back 200 years no one would have expected the government (and by extension, the people) to feed and house others who were unable to do so for themselves.

It took a certain amount of "man hours" to build a house or grow a garden. Trees had to be cut down by ax and either used as logs or sawn by hand into boards. Gardens were tended by hand. Whether pulling weeds or hoeing one person couldn't produce enough food for themselves and others. It was physically impossible.

As society progressed and technology advanced now we can feed and house others so why wouldn't society feed and house those who can not do so for themselves?

Laws and the Constitution were drafted in a different time, in a different reality. Giving to others resulted in one doing without or doing with considerably less. Social programs were non-existent because it was literally impossible to implement them.

That has changed. No one has to do without the necessities of life due to helping others. We can guarantee everyone the necessities of life, be it food, shelter, medical care, etc. without anyone doing without any of those things. That is what was not only impossible but undreamed of 200 years ago.

It is a bogus argument to suggest people will expect the government to supply everything and they won't have to work. The government does not supply TVs and sound systems and new cars and exclusive lines of clothing and vacations and all the other things a healthy individual aspires towards.

We can look after the less fortunate. We have the ability to look after them. Is there one good reason we should not?

Fear that the downtrodden will not stay in their place.

Yep, they are trying to ruin this country and for all it stands. I, for one and many others will not let them. This is not a threat, but a promise. :clink:

we already look after the less fortunate, welfare, medicare, medicaid, food stamps...how much more do they need? Large screen t.v.s, gold jewelry, clothes from Gucci?
I pay enough, it's their duty as a American citizen to get off the dole sometime and get a JOB take care of THEMSELVES...

"the Obama" is a cold, aloof, radical leftie who cares not for us, but for what he believes is all the wrongs the United States has done, and he intends to make us all pay for it...He doesn't care about the people in Iran rising up for freedom, he is siding with the regime, he is weak and is going to get us attacked again, probably sooner than later...people better hold onto their shorts...
I predict he will be impeached for overstepping his constitutional authority, starting with all these czars...and the sooner the better for us..

as long as democrats hold the majority, there will NEVER be an impeachment of a democrat president, even if we were to witness on live video the commission of a crime.

I wouldn't even bet on an impeachment if republicans were in control. too much political backlash would be present.
