Ahhh .. isn't it through the knowledge of how uranium is formed that we know the earth is a billion years old?

And this fool is arguing for uranium mining by claiming the earth is 6,000 years old.

WOW

The next time anyone brings up the argument about how religion should be involved in politics ... whip out this video.

Yeah, this is really funny.

The worst part is she's not all that far out there from many of the conservos I've heard on this board over the years.

The age of the earth is not a matter of opinion, retard.

so it is 100% fact....pray tell why they keep changing the age of the earth

Pretty sad....they accept science so long as it keeps their dopey asses alive and gives them the lifestyle that they enjoy, yet through it out the window for the sake of their "beliefs". And these people breed! (shudder).

It is absolutely 100 percent fact that the earth is in the multiple BILLIONS of years old. That number isn't changing. If it is revised from 4.5 to 4.54 billion years, that's not helping your argument. Nobody who's not totally retarded would try to suggest, as you did, that the evidence for the earth being 4.5 billion years old and the earth being 6,000 years old are about the same and therefore it's just a matter of opinion.

Un-fucking-believable. You, sir, are a fucking retard.

Light travels at a constant rate. The milky way is over 100,000 lightyears across. To see accross our own galaxy, the universe would have to be at least 100,000 years old. To see Andromeda, the nearest galaxy, the universe would have to be at least 2.5 million years old. There are much further objects in the sky, which we can detect the age of through their red-shift, but I think you get the general idea.

Anyone who says that the universe is 6.5k years old would have to propose the absurd notion that God put all that light in place right there just to trick us, which is an absurd special pleading that can't be taken seriously, and anyone who proposes it as a serious option, likewise, cannot be taken seriously. I don't care if it's your beliefs. Your beliefs are not something precious that is protected from critical review.

Olbermann actually gets his facts wrong in this one. Carbon dating doesn't have anything to do with Uranium, though it does have to do with radiation, and the two are closely related concepts. I can see how a n00bish layman (not a l33t layman such as myself) could get that wrong, though. It's not an error on the level of stating the world is 6k years old.

And carbon dating doesn't actually work on such a large timescale, but there are other forms of radioactive dating that work further back. IMHO, the best proof that the universe is really old is the fact that we can see objects billions of light-years away.

Yeah, he makes the mistake most Christians make when complaining about fossils. They say, "carbon dating is inaccurate!" without realizing that we don't date fossils by carbon dating at all since fossils aren't organic.

The age of the universe and the age of the earth are two separate things, as you know. The universe is between 13 and 14 billion years old, but the earth itself is younger.

It ain't 6000 years old. And Yurt is RETARDED for even trying to defend such a notion or even making the mistake of respecting such a retarded belief in someone else.

When that chap, in the badly fitting grey jacket, wandered up behind her i was expecting him to take pity on her and drag her away from the microphone, then i thought he was going to be physically sick. (Yes, i'm finding it hard to mask my disappointment)

I'd never claim that our elected representatives were in any way devoid of their share of the simple minded community but, no matter how many times i see stuff like this, i'm always left shaking my head and wondering...how? Just how?

How anyone can do anything but condemn her for her stupidity is beyond me. Trying to defend this behavior is WAY stupid.

lamest thread (today)....bashing someone for their beliefs....

you believe in billions, she doesn't

get over yourself

Without question this has to be the dumbest comment you've ever made in your life. At least hopefully so.

Because some adult believes in Santa Claus others should have nothing to say about it.

UBER-dumb.

Question: Why are you here?

Did you not come here to voice your own perspectives and challenge those you don't agree with?

No one should question a PUBLIC OFFICIAL who believes the earth is 6,000 years old because it's her "belief?"

... get real brother.

Not surprising or particulary newsworth. A lot of the republican base believe in a young earth, and at least three of the republican candidates in the primaries said during one of their debates that they didn't believe in evolution.

Huckabee, Ron Paul, and Tancredo as I recall.

And the rest of them, as I recall, believed in teaching creationsim in science classes.

Wide stances and scientific ignorance is a hall mark of the republican party, I don't know why you're surprised dude.
