For a reasoned thinker like Beck there perhaps can be nothing more infuriating than taking the time to prove point after point, then taking a call from someone who simply ignores all those proofs and regurgitates all the same baseless talking points. When I hosted public meetings on controversial projects I used to make a list of all the relative points, begin the session by summarizing each one, then take questions. Anytime the audience would bring up one of the points I'd then check it off. If they brought it up again I'd stop the discussion and notify them that the subject had been addressed twice before, so what new information on it did they have? The answer of course was always "none" so we'd move on. In any particular audience I'd have 90% or more consensus but always some fringe, usually sitting the back row, muttering something unintelligible.

Maybe so, but more likely just a stupid liberal that refuses to understand rational thought and logic, like many of them here.
I used to host public meetings on a municipal waste product used on farms as fertilizer. Invariably I'd get 5 to 10% of the audience who refused to believe the charts and lab data comparing the safety record of this product to say, commercial fertilizer. Lots of times the subject was "heavy metals" and I'd show them test results we did on bagged fertilizer showing our product had lower concentrations as well as met all regulatory limits. One time I got this guy that brought up the subject several times in the same 2 hour meeting, always bringing up some little nuance that didn't mean a lick of difference, and it got to the point that the rest of the audience would start to groan when the guy spoke. After everyone was done with questions this guy got up to speak about the 5th time and someone told him to "sit down", and he looked over at them, then looked at me and said (I'll never forget this) "I don't want that nigger shit around me anyway". I don't have to tell you that at that point the gasp of shock from the audience was deafening and the meeting was over right then and there.
I had never thought of that angle prior to that moment, but what this guy was concerned about was that the waste product came from "the City" where most of the black folks in the county lived, and he lived out in farm country where few blacks lived. Forget the obvious racism for a second, but he felt that he was being shit on by city folk.
The other thing about that exchange is that it demonstrated bluntly what I had discovered about irrational people long prior, is that they will develop any excuse to hide their real concerns, when they know that their real concern is looked on by others as irrational and stupid.

The caller asked him a bunch of questions, and he had no answers for any of them. What's his plan for healthcare? Make fun of the caller, of course! He never had a family member who got sick and they couldn't afford treatment. Response? Make fun of the caller of course!

I agree with most of what you've said, but having lived there during a summer and been on the metro during excruciatingly hot summers and endured body stenches as foul as cow shit, I have to respectfully disagree. They can definitely use AC there.

I think the wingnuts have a good point. Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and Sarah Palin are just passionate, rational, logical, and thoughtful people.
And it would terrify the shit out of me if they remained the public face of the republican party. I don't think the Dems can stand up to their logic and reason.
