Obama says Police acted stupidly!

http://www.boston.com/news/local/breaking_news/2009/07/charges_to_be_d.html

another source, which i can't find now, try later....said it was a book or he was thinking of writing on book on it

mind you it is all my opinion....but the way he handled this matter by immediately crying racism indicates to me that he saw an opportunity to get in the spotlight and of course as he writes books and has made prior documentaries....he is not clueless that if he makes the arrest a national sensation that it only helps the works it puts out later for it....

are you saying that you simply can't concieve that he would do that? what reason did he have to immediately start crying racism?

Where's there's smoke, there's fire.
Connect the dots
Me thinks he doth protest to much.

You may very well be right and maybe he needs to sell a lot of books; because of money problems.

Whatever, if you're inclined to think that the police acted wrongly you will give Gates the benefit of the doubt. If you are inclined to this the police acted appropriately you will not give Gates the benefit of the doubt.

Me, I'm generally a proponent of Occam's Razor. I think the simplest explanation is that Gates, wrongly or rightly, perceived racism and acted accordingly.

YEAH, You're right.

It had to be racism to respond to a report that a Black man was breaking into a house, who then initially refused to prove who he was.

That can be the only explanation.

HEY, that's pretty easy to do.
You know; blame everyone else for your behavior.

yes.....because a white cop confronts a black man....it must be racism

your point actually bolsters mine...he has spent his whole life studying it and probably is so worked up over it that he cries racism where none exists

i can't wait to hear the full exchange or learn more facts

In other words, you don't know anything about Gates.

There was nothing in the original posting that suggested he was arrested IN his home.

If you have something that wasn't posted, why don't you present it.
Shouldn't be that difficult!!

I don't post it because you've read it and your argument is silly .. real silly.

He wasn't arrested IN his home but AT his home and ON his property.

I'm sure you can find some meaningless distinction, but there is no distinction that would matter.

Then why did you bold print the word "IN" if you weren't trying to make it look like that was the case??
Are you now professing that a person can't be arrested on their property??

I didn't say it was racism, you ignorant shit. All I said was that Gates most likely perceived racism and reacted accordingly.

It is like the subtle distinction between being an ignorant shit (like you) and appearing to be an ignorant shit (like Damocles).

You cannot properly be arrested for disorderly conduct for things that you do inside you own home/

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, it seems like your feelings are hurt.

I guess I now pwn you, seeing as how you failed to continue without being an ass.

The only racism being shown, is by the Prof and his enablers (like yourself).

Dude, I make no argument about where he was arrested other than to counter the silly notion that he wasn't arrested at home.

What difference does it make if he was arrested inside his house or on his porch?

That's a question.

OBAMA ACTED STUPIDLY!

I have to agree. At least today he said he regreted it, close to an apology, but not really one yet. I hope he does apologise for speaking without knowing the facts.
(Doing so would show a major way he is different than our past president.)

I really wish this guy had simply and politly said, its my house, I will not waste any time producing my ID, have a nice day.

How is the police officer supposed to KNOW it's his house? What if he is a burglar claiming it is his house? Is the officer supposed to just take his word for it and leave?

What people are failing to understand is the circumstances. This was a 911 call, reporting a suspected break in at the address. There had been a series of such break ins in the neighborhood, including one attempted break in at that very address! So the cop is supposed to go there and take some unidentified persons word for it, that he lives there? C'mon, let's be real! The cop was doing his job! It was the belligerent professor who brought "race" into it, with his very first remark to the officer!

No, the officer can do anything he wants. He can sit across the street and watch... he can call the department and have them call the owner... he can talk to the neighbors.

Were it me, I would have shown the ID, but this guy would have been well within his rights to politely refuse.

Had I thought I was being profiled, I would have refused. I have refused to allow a police officer to search my car on two ocassions, not that I had anything to hide, I just did not want them to search my car.

According to the officers story, you are correct about how race became a factor.

Incorrect. The police have every right to ask for and obtain proof of your identity when investigating a potential crime. If you refuse, they arrest you and your ass sits in jail until they can verify your identity.

Bullshit, FALSE.

They have the right to ask, you have the right to refuse.

Check the 4th Amendment.
