Black officer at scholar's home supports arrest

By BOB SALSBERG, Associated Press Writer Bob Salsberg, Associated Press Writer – Fri Jul 24, 1:57 pm ET
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A black police officer who was at Henry Louis Gates Jr.'s home when the black Harvard scholar was arrested says he fully supports how his white fellow officer handled the situation.

Sgt. Leon Lashley says Gates was probably tired and surprised when Sgt. James Crowley demanded identification from him as officers investigated a report of a burglary. Lashley says Gates' reaction to Crowley was "a little bit stranger than it should have been."

Asked if Gates should have been arrested, Lashley said supported Crowley "100 percent."

seems the more we learn and hear about the incident the worse it looks for gates and those who blindly supported him based on a pure emotional stance regarding race....

Now we'll hear that he's just an "Uncle Tom" and that he HAS to say something to support his fellow "racist" cop.

I almost wish that a video of this entire thing pops up, so that the Gates apologists can have their noses rubbed in it.

Meaningless.

Cops support other cops .. what's your point?

he's not wrong though. we've all seen evidence of that blue brotherhood. I just happen to think that the officers were correct on this one.

I agree and it doesn't just happen in the field of "blue".
It happens in all aspects of society and even among the color of Black.

My comment was that I knew this was going to be the next excuse being thrown, in an attempt to get ANYTHING to stick.

It's not an excuse, it's the truth .. as you've already stated.

Fraternity supercedes race, faith, and gender .. and there is no better example of that than the military where everybody is the same and everybody supports each other regardles of where they come from or percieved truth.

Now who was it that said the following and yet continued to show their own racist attitude??
Racism is the manifestation of one's own sense of inferiority

unless you have other information....the point is....nothing racist occurred....

the prof cried wolf

the cop was extreme in his actions. they both were trying to be the male alpha dog. things happen when male egos clash, right?

Just curious why was the cop extreme? I believe you are correct when both went alpha male. And I ask this as one who has had his face bashed into the concrete of San Francisco by a f*cking punk *ss pig (cop) so I am no police lover. But I am also not a hater and know a job needs to be done. I have no idea why this story turned partisan but we should never underestimate ourselves huh?

The arrest, itself. I believe that was the extreme part.

Police have Uncle Tom or Oreo brothers and sisters who are willing to sell out their own people.

That's why we nominated and elected a Black President?

and during the election we were told by lefties if we did not vote for him - we were racists

If we do not blindly support his agenda we are racists

Anytime anyone points out his failures we are racists

See the pattern?
