Don't you have to use humor in these situations? It would be the only way I could deal with the horror of the moment.
I used gallows humor when I had cancer. People would gasp at some of the jokes I made, but it helped me tremendously! Still does. It is necessary in my opinion for me to be a survivor.
Peoples jaws tend to drop open among other things when someone with a serious problem jokes about it. then when they loosen up and start replying in kind and someone else walks in....
I try and use the same approach with the disabled vets I work with. Depending on the situation and them of course. Making myself the brunt of crippled jokes helps to break ice of course. It really helps with depression the vets all go thru because of their disabilities.
I kid around with my friends about my spineless condition and they now kid back. But when someone else overhears they give dirty looks to my friends. My buddies and I usually just crack up about it and really confuse them.
I may have to start up another company, they all want a set of wheels like mine

I have 2 of them working in my shop building their own with my training and help. Maybe my company will be made up of disabled vets? ONly issue is I am not sure how many patents I might have stepped on.
