Profits before people?

Are you confident that your health care provider (assuming you can afford one) makes decisions in your best interest?

If the answer is "no", then you are the target of an unprecedented media blitz designed to coerce you into telling Congress to stop reforms that may erode the obscene profits of the gargantuan US health care business.

Make no mistake. Many giant health care corporations are doing very, very well for themselves despite the Bush-legacy economic downturn. They don't want change - unless change means higher margins for them by providing fewer benefits for you.

Industry opposition to sensible reform proposals was the dominant factor in slowing the pace of negotiations in the House, resulting in this week's announcement that the Senate cannot meet President Obama's preferred target date for a final bill.

Agreeing to provide better, more economical care just doesn't appeal to the bottom-line boys who call the shots at the big hospitals, insurers and pharma conglomerates.

Unlike the American Medical Association, the powerful profits-before-people lobby has yet to endorse any of the current reform bills, because they are demanding that the profit-eroding public insurance and Medicare payment options must be scrapped.

The irony of the fox trying to dictate the height of the fence around the henhouse is inescapable.

Profit is always before people.
But in at least health care is should not be very much at all ahead of people.

Fixing your car is one thing, but saving your life is another.

My kids have always been 'covered' by their father's or by university coverage. Indeed they've had a few things that needed mega bucks, all in psych care. Funny that, no physical problems from teens to thirties. Could that be why so many opt out? D'oh.

It makes sense for young adults to opt out, if not a 'give me' via employer. More than 9 out of 10 good decision.

By requiring universal coverage the risk pool becomes more sustainable and costs are lowered for everyone.

Would you support allowing uninsured motorists to drive, or businesses to operate without liability coverage?

Tried in vain to get health insurance coverage for a former girlfriend with a history of cancer. And I saw the wonders of the free market unleashed. :clink:

But if we help people like your former girlfriend then we have to pay for illegals too and let's face it, none of us want anything to do with those people, right?

Aren't they starting to run the other way? Seniors are going to Mexico in hordes to see dentist, eye doctor and to get drugs! Aspirin with Codeine, my aunt's favorite!

Oh man, tell me about it froggie. It must have been especially scary for you. I hear a lot of people are afraid to leave, or change jobs because they are slaves to whatever healthcare they get from their employer.

The markets at work! :clink:

Yeah brown people are the worst.

Leave it to a stupid liberal, pretending to be a conservative, to call Hispanic's "brown" people. The fact that you falsely portray the GOP as being anti illegals because of skin color is such a give-away dork.

I had ya at the declaration of being a conservative...idjit

Today, President Obama said long–term investments in innovation are needed to ensure the country's long-term economic growth as we struggle to overcome the effects of the Bush depression.

We need to recapture the spirit of innovation that has always moved America forward. By supporting the President's ideas, a new foundation strong enough to withstand future economic storms and support lasting prosperity will be laid.

That means a health care system that makes it possible for entrepreneurs to innovate and businesses to compete without being saddled with skyrocketing insurance costs.

We will restore science to its rightful place, and wield technology's wonders to raise health care's quality and lower it's cost.
