God was quite specific about who among the Canaanites he ordered killed...they generally were those who worshiped Molech....Molech was particularly nasty because it was a hollow metal idol with open arms in which a fire was built....when it was hot enough, they would place an infant in its arms to scream until it died.....

he didn't just say it's okay, he ordered it done....now you were the one that decided to throw "theocracy" into the debate....this is an example of the only time in the history of humanity that there really was a "theocracy".....you got a nation traveling across the wilderness for forty years.....every morning their food gets delivered to them in a supernatural way, when they run out of water, it starts running out of a rock.....in the daytime there's a pillar of smoke that leads them across the wilderness, at night it's a pillar of fire.....you've got a tabernacle with a seat in it where your God sits...
