The reality is the orders you say God commanded of them were indeed not commanded of them. Not in the verses you are giving us, and not within the context of the story.

The story itself is bad enough.

Israel stops by to hang out with these people. Their women show them a good time. God gets pissed at them for failing him by sleeping with those women and punishes Israel, later he orders them to kill all of them, except the young girls who could not have been guilty of the crime. Of course, if he was really merciful the young menfolk who also weren't guilty wouldn't have gone to slaughter, and if he really loved all people he wouldn't have slaughtered the others for failing him.

You take only the end piece and attribute an order to God that he didn't make when it is really unnecessary.

The charge was not about human perceptions of God's intent. The charge was, that God ordered rape, and that was proven false. The Scripture in question simply doesn't say that. Furthermore, what is being done is strictly warned against in the Bible. We are not supposed to cherry-pick verses and interpret specific connotation to them. The Bible is to be taken in whole, not in part. The danger in cherry-picking is apparent here, people interpret the wrong thing.

The story in question was an instance where the city had become so vile and corrupt that God ordered his followers to kill the infidels. God, being omnipotent, didn't have to do this, he could have just as easily wiped out all life himself. The story is presented in the Bible for two reasons, I believe. One, to illustrate God is not compassionate or tolerant, and two, as a test of faith in God.

Before some pinhead chimes in with comparisons with this story and alQaeda, it's important to note, this was from the Old Testament. The profound change made possible through Jesus Christ, introduced "love" and "forgiveness" to the equation. It was through Jesus man reconciled the brutal nature of an unforgiving God, and love for mankind. The Good News for Modern Man, was that we can love and forgive others for their transgressions, and leave judgment of others to God. It's the foundational difference in Christianity and other beliefs in God which came before.

Oh not to Spurt. He's in the middle of a big storyline right now, playing the terrorized victim of a homosexual cyberstalking! It's a really juicy role. I had no idea he was starring in two storylines simultaneously though!

Some say he is given to overacting his parts, but I feel he is very talented. I wouldnt' be surprised if, when they finally come out with the cyber version of the Academy Awards, they name them the Spurt Desmond Awards.

Selective thinking at best.

God gets pissed (what fucking god get's pissed except one created as a human) .. orders the wholesale slaughter of men, married women, AND BOYS, WHO COULD NOT HAVE BEEN GUILTY OF ANY CRIME .. has his MURDERER "law-giver" Moses divide up the booty like pirates including young virgin girls.

Question: Why didn't god or the murderer Moses spare the YOUNG BOYS?

Question: Is the the first or only incident of the rape of young girls in the bible. Are their instructions on HOW TO RAPE A MAIDEN?

Some people seem to get all the best roles. I've been here years and i've never been offered the role of the violated victim of a gender bending cyber rapist.

I don't know, IMO the whole Bible is a silly anthropomorphism of history inserting the power of God into everything along the way. Israel wins a war, they say it was because God said so, Israel loses a war it is because they sinned and are being punished, although they never mention what the Idolators did right in order to win that war...

It's possible that "God" knows everything, considering I believe that each thing that lives is one small piece of "God". If you take all the knowledge of all things that live (including those Aliens that we have yet to discover or who have yet to discover us) it's possible that all knowledge is within the grasp of that Deity.

The simple fact is, God in no way ordered any rape. It isn't there. And it is an attempt at reductionism to pretend the only option for this God would be to give step by step instructions. God has been known to say things like, "And have your way with them" or to have the capacity to say such things. IMO if God had wanted them good and raped he would have told them to rape them.

And again, you project onto these soldiers, why do you assume they wanted sex with the underage Midians?

and i wasn't playing victim to BAC....i don't consider a friend someone who continually insults because i don't believe a friend or in this case god has ordered rape etc....and then when asked for proof, calls me an idiot because i don't see his interpretion....

that is not being a victim, that is letting a friend know i don't consider that friendship....
