Property taxes make you property of the Government?

How are we full property owners if we pay property tax!?

BTW. Property tax is added to the cost of rents too.

if you took the stimulus money, get SS, SSI or any form of disability, which is 80% of trash white ppl in the south.....YOU TOO ARE PROPERTY OF THE FEDS, WELCOME TO THE FAMILY, WHEN'S DINNER?

The advantage to no property tax on a primary residence is that you own the home you live in and the government can't take it away on a whim.

It is your view that is myopic. You seem to think that the way our government does things with property tax is the only way things can be done. That's patently not true.
The house is not yours until you have clear title. Most in discussion either rent, or don't have clear title.

Until you do, you will lose the house if you don't pay your mortgage, or carry insurance.

What sense is owning a home if there is no fire dept, no roads, and no police?

I know you believe that we don't need schools.

What's that got to do with property taxes? You vehicle isn't truly yours until you pay off the loan. Most fire departments, and police are not paid from property taxes today. In many rural areas both are paid by subscription. Here's a case of that:

Roads vary. In many developments, the roads are put in by the developer who then gives them to the city or county in return for a tax break on profits from the development. Parks are like that too in many cases.

Schools can be paid by subscription too.

I don't live in the South & I live in New York state.

I don't get SS, or Disability.

Why is property tax any more objectionable than sales or income tax. You can also be punished for not paying those. If it is not my property because I have to pay property taxes it follows that it is not my car because I have to pay a sales tax.

This is completely fallacious. You have to pay property tax yearly (most places) and that is every year into perpetuity. If I buy a car, I pay sales tax one time and done. The car is mine forever if I paid fully for it.
Thus, the difference is that property tax makes you in essence a renter paying the government an annual rent for your property while sales tax is a one-time thing and you don't pay it again.

It is an easy observation to make throughout the globe that the most civilized places with the best quality of life are the places that have the highest taxation.
It's just a fact.

Actually, that's not entirely true. The highest taxed places often see the most flight by the middle class to elsewhere. The rich don't care because they either avoid the taxes or can easily pay them almost without notice. The middle class can't, and the poor don't pay enough to make a difference if they pay at all.

Thus, right now the middle class is fleeing California, New York, and Illinois for other places in part due to high taxes. Michigan fell into economic ruin because of high taxes. France a few years back tried to slap a wealth tax of 70% on millionaires. They left the country in droves for elsewhere to avoid having their money confiscated.

You have to pay income taxes every year. If you only paid once there would only be revenue to run government functions for that year.

How would you provide revenue for government functions.

They can't repossess my home for non-payment. Sure, they can garnish wages and they have other ways of getting those taxes but they can't take your home for it. At worst, you declare bankruptcy and you get to keep your home. Fail to pay property taxes and it's gone.

As for government revenue: Income tax, sales tax, import duties... there's a myriad of ways to pay for government that doesn't involve property taxes.

You just helped to dispel the claim in the OP

LMAO. Not true at all. If you bothered to read the 10 year old link, you would see that the fee is in addition to the free fire service provided by the city.

How do you suppose that 'free' service is provided?

Grossly inept. You get an F

My state has property taxes but no income tax. I'm happy the way it is although it doesn't make much difference to me. I can pay $6500 property tax or income tax. I don't plan on not paying my property tax so I don't have to worry.

In my area there are apparently a lot of people who don't pay their property taxes for years and nothing really happens. I only know about it because they always publish their names in the paper when they file to run for office.

From my original link.

While the city provides fire service free of charge to its residents, it requires an annual $75 fee for homeowners who live in unincorporated areas of Obion County -- which doesn't have its own fire department.

So, if you are a resident in the "unincorporated areas of Obion County" like that homeowner was, you pay an annual $75 fee or the fire department won't come put your house out. That's what happened. People that live outside the city (the unincorporated areas) have to pay a fee because they don't pay city taxes and fees like residents do.

It is you that deserves the F for not being able to comprehend English.

LOL. The pittance doesn't keep the fire dept. alive. It's the taxes that people pay.

You're trying to create, however unsuccessfully, strawmen in order to take attention away from your flawed position.

Nothing happens? Why would anyone pay taxes then?

In NY, in the third year of delinquent taxes your property goes up for auction if you don't pay up. Most banks require escrow as part of your mortgage. It used to be voluntary, but now it isn't.

Ooops. You just illustrated how taxes work. If you don't like the term 'tax', then just call it a 'vagina'. Does that make you feel better? Paying a vagina every year in lieu of taxes?

Looks like you have the comprehension issues.

Got any other strawmen?

They usually pay up after they file to run for some office and the newspaper publishes their name as not having paid their taxes (usually on property that is not their home).

I own products I buy although I pay a sales tax on them. I own the income I make although I pay an income tax. I own my home although I pay a property tax. I am the full property owner because I can sell my house at market value.

If you buy a new refrigerator you pay tax on it once, not every year.
