North Korea announced Tuesday that it had pardoned two detained American journalists, hours after former president Bill Clinton met in Pyongyang with reclusive dictator Kim Jong Il as part of an unannounced and highly unusual diplomatic mission to win their freedom.

Kim issued an order "granting a special pardon to the two American journalists who had been sentenced to hard labour in accordance with Article 103 of the Socialist Constitution and releasing them," the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said.

The Clinton-Kim meeting in Pyongyang, images of which were broadcast on North Korean television, was the first time in years that the ailing North Korean head of state has been visited by a Western leader. At a dinner banquet hosted in Clinton's honor, the head of the North Korean State Security Department attended, signaling that a pardon was imminent.

Clinton traveled to North Korea after receiving explicit assurance that he would be able to depart with the two journalists, according to a source involved in the planning of the trip.

Translation: I wish they had killed the bitches! Then we could have whined and complained about how incompetent Obama is and how no one is afraid of him. It would have been soooo much better for us politically.

and without knowing how much we gave to NK for their release, if it was just a photo op with a bill clinton and some little stuff ( a big deal to NK ) i'm all for it.....

i think we should have sent cheney to go hunting with him kim instead though

I do take it that you are unhappy that the reporters are released?

you would have preferred that Obama not use any form of diplomacy to try to get them released?

i don't know....obama's own jet goes racing around NY scaring the crap out of people and obama claims he had no knowledge and had nothing to do with the event....

clinton has been travelling the world for sometime now....

if you think a democratic former president whose wife is the secretary of state flies over to North Korea without Obama being involved in every step of the deal, you are really even more moronic and stupid than I had previously imagined.... and given the fact that I had previously thought you might not even be smart enough to tie your own shoes, that is really saying a lot.

i think it is possible that clinton also worked his magic on his own, clinton has that ability, obama does not

So, the release of the two "journalists" was already decided. Bill had nothing to do with it and is merely acting as an escort (considering his track record, this could be problematic). He did nothing and is simple window dressing.

And the statement from The White House says:

While this solely private mission to secure the release of two Americans is on the ground, we will have no comment. We do not want to jeopardize the success of former President Clinton's mission.

The neocons are just besides themselves!......Journalist freed from a hostile country by DIPLOMACY....enacted by Slick Willy and authorized by Obama. The little dopes are so mad, they won't even realize that the anti-Obama jabbering and fabrications they'll produce behind this essentially demonstrates their lack of concern for the well being of the journalist and their trumping the PNAC agenda over all else. LOL. I was waiting for a comment like this. I almost made a similar one suggesting that Bill was going to stay if the two women were released, but then I realized, he would never pass up an opportunity to fly halfway around the world with to you and attractive women!
