The government of President Hugo Chavez seized control of two of Venezuela's largest coffee processing plants on Monday, threatening to expropriate them if investigations reveal they have illegally smuggled coffee out of the country.

Commerce Minister Eduardo Saman said officials suspect that Fama de America and Madrid may have violated laws preventing companies from circumventing government price controls.

If investigations reveal such violations, Saman said officials will "propose the expropriation" of the plants.

"In that case the workers would take control of the business," Saman told state television, noting that authorities would occupy the plants for three months during the investigations.

Chavez's socialist government is expanding the state's role in the economy as part of its drive toward socialism.

When our corporations fuck over the country, we just give them a trillion dollar bail out and a pat on the back.

Bull Fucking Shit! The article clearly states that the companies are under suspicion of violating exportation laws. Unlike here in America, were corporations are treated like human beings and given multiple passes when they're caught screwing around, the Venezuelans are giving THE PEOPLE a chance to do it right....IF the companies in question are found quilty.
 
Hmm actually treating a corporation like an individual. Unlike in America where corps only have all the privs of an individual, but none of the liability.

I can see where this would get cons upset.

I've wondered about this. Do the con actually want a country run by a few large corporations?

I liked the "American Dream" America. After 30 yrs of conservative ideology the dream has turn into a.... ahhh never mind.

Corporate rule in the U.S. has to stop. I hope Obama has half the balls FDR did.

You seize it , investigate it and if guilty shut it down or give it to someone else and fire all curerent management. the stock is null and void, etc Would put a bit more of a sense of involvement in stockholderes wouldn't it? They might try and see that it is ran properly.

thats not putting it in jail is it....that is one reason why corps are treated different

Well you left out the incarceration of Board members and CEO's when found guilty of crimes as part of the revamping. Neocons have to have things spelled out for them, least they grasp every opportunity to stubbornly hold onto their convictions.
