They're getting scarce, but it's good to see that there are still a few adults left in the GOP:
"Town hall meetings are an American tradition - we should allow everyone to express their views without disruption - even if we disagree!"
Nice going, JMac....
It's not a shell game, it's more like paid TV... People seated solely to clap and shout orgasmically at everything they say, specific people with set questions to "spontaneously" ask questions... a lot like a Presidential press conference nowadays...McCain's Presidential campaign is going to fuck his whole legacy up. He will be remembered as a grumpy, bitter old fart who tried to whine his way to the Whitehouse.
Getting the nom was the worst thing that ever happened to his reputation.
That being said, town hall meetings don't really exist anymore. Its a shell game.

Ain't that the truth! He pretty much sold his soul. Too bad, really.

I know he did because my very liberal Aunt told me she almost registered Republican in 2000 to vote for McCain in the primaries because she liked him that much.
To win your party's nomination you pretty much have to sell out.
Obama was probably a lot more liberal before he was nominated.
2000 bra.
But to your point yes. Look at blackascoal... "the movement is here!" or something to that effect. He was totally onboard with the primary Obama.
My Aunt and her husband from Canada always rip on me. She's the one who calls me 'right-wing cracker'. I'm like damn, love you to Auntie.
But she really liked McCain in 2000.
You live in San Fransisco, which is kind of amazing for a conservative. You are one of the few people here who I identify as the "independent conservatives". Actually it's pretty much just you and SF.
BTW, I kind of liked McCain before 2008 as well. When he ran for president, it was just odd how all the obsessive conservative got behind them, and obsessed over how Obama would ruin everything. There truly didn't seem to be a massive difference between him and Obama. But now that he's opposed to healthcare, I hate him more than anything.![]()
Haha, this guy I worked with in LA in my group who got laid off when I did (he was higher than me, sort of my boss) came up on Tuesday to SF so we hung out. He's a big surfer and traveler and a Democrat. So I showed him Pelosi's and Finestein's houses which are both less than a half a mile from me. He loved it. So I just moved back to SF from LA and as I was unpacking all my stuff I had to refill my bookselves (sp?). Man, I've read all the conservatives books from Limbaugh, O'Reilly, Coulter and Savage. Most I read years ago but still... I was like damn... I need to hide these in case some non-conservative woman comes over!!!
Seriously? Limbaugh?
LOL. It's kind of amazing how you retained your sanity. I guess it is possible.
Grind's dad, who's a frequent Savage listener, can't even listen to Obama without getting so angry he storms out of the room.
I guess I have gotten like this over the years in the opposite direction, as I can't even take a look at even the George Will newsfeeds without getting furious, and I really only ever pay attention to the liberal commentators and and talkleft + dailykos.
(Grind gave me this information in confidence, and I'm only giving it away cus I'm drunk, I hope he forgives me.)
Obama was probably a lot more liberal before he was nominated.
Yeah, sometimes they are surprised by somebody who gets through and starts speaking effectively. But normally they control these things. Shoot, it was one of the greatest complaints against Bush who wouldn't let people into his that had certain t-shirts, etc.You mean like that crazy birther woman at Mike Castles town hall meeting? If a lot of people are like her, the scripted town hall meetings are perfectly understandable.
hmm how many times has one of the rightie pundits on here tipped their hats to a politico on the left?
