Gun owners sue DC for right to carry weapons

carrying in DC inevitable

The attorney who got the Supreme Court to overturn the District of Columbia's handgun ban is now challenging rules that prohibit gun owners from carrying their weapons outside their homes.

Attorney Alan Gura filed a lawsuit Thursday in federal court challenging the gun laws the city passed in the wake of the Supreme Court ruling. Those laws allow people to keep registered guns only at home for self-defense.

Three of the plaintiffs in the case are licensed D.C. gun owners who had applications rejected when they applied to carry their guns outside their homes.

Another from Maryland applied to carry his gun for self-defense while visiting D.C. after he was stopped for speeding and charged with carrying a loaded handgun in his car.

To be consistent with Heller the supreme court should strike this law down. It's going to take a decade though, which is probably what was on the mind of the people who passed it.

One of the pitfalls of our system, in which we have a constitutional guardian, is that people do things they know are unconstitutional (or at least that the guardian will find unconstitutional), violating their oaths of office, just because they can get away with it for a while. They forget that they are supposed to be the first guardians, and the supreme court is supposed to be the guardian of last resort. A law passed like this is just disrespectful to that concept, even if the DC council disagreed with the courts interpretation.

who are you and what did you do with watermark?

I like your Gadsden flag avatar. Right after 9-11 I flew one outside my house, much to my neighbors chagrin.
Thank you. I just bought myself a hat with that logo for my b-day, and 20 of the stickers, one for my truck, and the others to hand out to friends and clients.
