Weak Sanctions Will Not Stop Anything, Brandon

This pResident cannot get anything right. Sanctions should be put on Countries before the invasion and then we tell them we will remove them if they act like responsible world citizens and don't annex portions of neighboring countries. This idea that we can't really sanction some nation now because then we wouldn't have the threat of sanctions later is just weak BS.

This idea that sanctioning the parts of the Ukraine that Russia just annexed will stop Russia from sending "peacekeepers" into more of the Ukraine is preposterous.

Now is the time for actual definitive action, not pretending we have "more better sanctions" to levy later if you don't stop here....

You've had Trump semen dripping off your chin since he was elected. It doesn't pass the laugh test that you are a steadfast advocate of brutal sanctions of Putin, when you devoted your heart and soul to years of defending the Kremlin stooge Trump.

Huh?

The OP says he should have taken stronger action. And now a few posts later you're saying he shouldn't have done anything?

That's a new one.

No, the OP speaks to the threats of sanctions and punting the action down the road and how ineffective it is at getting any nation to act in the way you say you want them to.

My opinion on whether we should actually be doing this is different than my opinion on whether weak sanctions on an annexed territory would work to deter anybody from anything at all.

This is an absurd defense of Brandon's weak and listless foreign policy where his threat has no punch and the lines in the sand move. Russia is doing what he said they should not, Brandon's response, punish the areas that Russia Annexed. That will show him!

I mean, in addition to contradicting yourself wildly on this thread, the above response doesn't even make sense.

I'm not defending anything. I'm just explaining that strategy around sanctions is not some sort of rulebook. It's nuanced, and evolves w/ any situation.

It's obvious that Biden is making Putin think about his actions. Putin would have invaded weeks ago if not for our efforts and those of our allies.

Sanctions are not what I support. I simply state that if we are going to sanction it is now that it would be effective, not after they own the Ukraine. I personally support letting Europe handle European issues where US interests do not exist.

why aren't all these Putin lovers packing for Russia instead of embarrassing themselves here?....they can post shit from Moscow just as easily

I mean, we put the ball squarely in Putin's court. Short of strong military action, which could lead to an untenable escalation, this was the right move.

Invade, and suffer severe economic consequences. It's his choice now.

You have zero credibility to parade here as the get-tough-on-Russia advocate, when you've spent five years with your lips locked on the flabby ass of Putin's lapdog, Donald Trump

Putin waited until China was done with the Olympics and was going to wait for that before invading from the beginning. These threats of sanctions have literally changed nothing of what Putin planned. He's even taken more land than the original "recognized" annexed territory... and Brandon's response? Punish the annexed territory because that will do it.... We won't let any US citizen buy a company there. That's what will fix this.

Risible.

BTW, Putin already invaded.

Putin sends tanks into Ukraine

President Putin ordered Russian troops and tanks into Ukraine’s breakaway eastern regions last night under the guise of a peacekeeping force after signing decrees recognizing their independence.

The order sending peacekeeping missions into Donetsk and Luhansk amounts to a de facto military invasion of the eastern corner of Ukraine.

Before the order Putin gave a televised national address in which he denounced Nato encroachment on Russia’s borders and vowed to defend the two regions.

Russia has controlled Donetsk and Luhansk via proxies since it fomented an armed separatist movement there, having annexed Crimea in 2014.

Now the press is falling all over themselves trying to pretend that what he did yesterday isn't a "full-scale" invasion, but the egg is already on bungling Biden's face.

Now what?

Bungling Brandon is worthless and weak, but I don't blame him - I blame the Obama retreads who are actually pulling the levers.

Remember how well they handled the Arab Spring and Libya?

And the use of "Brandon" really tips the hand that bias is a factor here.

It is no secret that I think that Brandon has early dementia and that I have opinions that are not considered leftist. I have never pretended to be a leftist. You act like you just discovered that my opinion doesn't align with yours and that it is somehow a "scandal" that on a political message board some folks don't have the same opinion as you do.

If you put the sanctions on before the invasion, Brandon, they are not much of a deterrent are they?

That's a speculation festival right there.

how could you possibly know that for a fact?

answer: you can't and don't

LOL. Yet you can pretend you "know" that our actions stopped him "for weeks"? I can see what happened and describe it to you. It isn't even opinion that Putin waited until after the Olympics, it's clear fact.
