He did this because he wanted to take out Congress, and an angry, energized crowd gave him his best shot,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Risa Berkower told a jury of six men and six women in closing arguments Monday.

Reffitt “lighted that crowd into an unstoppable force” that pushed through officers making a “last stand” defending the Senate Wing doors, the prosecutor said. The riot forced the evacuation of Vice President Mike Pence and lawmakers as ballot boxes holding the electoral college election results were shuttled to safety.

In conversations recorded before and after the riot played for the jury, Reffitt said he was ready to overthrow “constitutionally corrupt” lawmakers..."

Too bad none of those counts included actual insurrection, in order for you to be honest in your assertions. Not a single person charged, let alone found guilty, of insurrection from that day. More lefttard nonsense.

Oh, there was certainly violence. Most riots include violence, and this was no exception. And anyone who was violent should be properly charged for that violence. Ashley Babbit should have been charged for her actions too, instead of being murdered by a cop with a history of mishandling weapons.

But it wasn't an insurrection. A small riot, yes. Insurrection, no (as we can see by the many people charged, none of whom have been charged for such a crime)

It was clearly and obviously an insurrection, overseen by Trump and accomplished with the leadership of many Trumpies. No demonstrations by the protesters over police violence were a threat to the existence of America. 1-6 certainty was, and it was designed to be. Another significant difference in the police attacked the demonstrators. In the insurrection, those trying to overthrow the government attacked the police.
You cannot compare those. The demonstrations over police violence were attempting to make them act according to the constitution, honoring the rights of the people they beat and kill. The cops did the same when they were protested against. They went in with clubs, rubber bullets, shields, and gas. However, 1-6 was violence against the police. 165 of them were injured, some died. None of that happened in the demonstrations.

It wasn't an insurrection. Not a single person has been charged with insurrection or anything remotely close to it.

Guy Wesley Reffitt faces a maximum of 60 years in prison. His sentencing is set for June 8.
