Social Security Payments to Shrink for First Time in a Generation

Bachman screaming for the government to keep their hands off her body and now meme fighting for further commitment to SS?

These people have jumped the shark.

Interesting that the other parts of medicare have provisions from taking a hit when COLA goes down. The Bush pill bill does not though, it can even go up while the cost of living is going down.

Love the last line, is that an old saying, or did you make that up?

It's as typical as it gets.

Get big government out of our lives, but don't touch my Medicare or Social Security!

Its all from a stupid TV show where Fonzie jumps a shark on skis.

At that momment eveyone realized the show was dead meat.

The seniors will see a decrease in the bottom line and that's all they care about. How are you going to convince them that this is Bush's fault? :)
My dad already knows it. He didn't vote for McCain for that reason, called me to tell me he was going to vote for Obama, a Democrat, he kind of spit that last part out. It was hard for him, but he voted his conscience. HE is 89 years young.

that's all you care about isn't it..not the fact this is for our parents and grandparents that was forced to pay into this monster, so now they expect and rely on something back from it...

they can't even run this program and now they want us to have them take over our entire health care system..

Out house has never counted on SS. It will be there for us, but we don't count on it.
I have absolutely no faith that it will be there when I "retire." I cannot see how it can be. I consider my payments just taxes that they say will benefit you later just so they can tax the poor without guilt.

I just see it as a charitable contribution to those who have less than we do.
I feel so fortunate for that, I don't mind giving to help others.

I'm all for privatization of SS. I don't see the downside.

When the market crashed, I heard a few "that's why we can't privatize!" kinds of comments, but the return after 20+ years, on average, cannot be argued.

If they handled the funds like our Permanent Fund Dividend, I think I would have to take a look!

How would they get the money back that they have stolen and used in the General Funds? How will they replace the false revenue they generate by spending this money that was supposed to be an insurance for a future?

And when I say stolen I absolutely do not mean solely the D party, this was perpetrated on people by both parties.

Anyway, I agree. But first the government will have to learn to do without the money that they use the SS system to launder into the general budget.

Heavy sigh, good question, very good question.

Yepper. And that is going to hurt when they have to start paying it back from general funds in a few years.
The right will be calling it a tax increase.

Well, they'll need some heavy hitters on the accounting side, to be sure. I agree that there are many complications.

But it has to be done. The current system is unsustainable, as we all know. Privatization is a smart idea that will reap rich rewards for both the economy at large & individual retirement plans.

If privatized the people who need to retire in down times would be fucked.
