3,900 stimulus checks went to prison inmates

Government sent 3,900 economic stimulus checks to prison inmates -- 2,200 got to keep them
...
The checks were part of the massive economic recovery package approved by Congress and President Barack Obama in February. About 52 million Social Security recipients, railroad retirees and those receiving Supplemental Security Income were eligible for the one-time checks.

obama rules!

And why shouldn't they get checks? Are they not citizens?

Spurt's just trolling, because he's stil in love with Bush.

I'm not sure Spurt even read his own article. Some of those prisoners were eligible for the benefits, because they weren't in jail when the law passed.

As for the 1700 who weren't eligible, and accidently received checks? Spurt, personally I would say 1700 mistakes out of 52 million checks is outstanding performance. Doing the arithmetic off the top of my head, that comes out of an error rate of around 0.003%. Even if you multiple that error rate by two orders of magnitude, it doesn't even come close to 1% t

Spurt, I bet the error rate you make in your job, is way higher than 0.003%. And, unless your a fan of Enron, Bear Stearns, and Halliburton, I bet the sheer level of error and incompetence by those companies performance-wise isn't any better than what the SSA is doing.

So if I get a DUI and I'm sentenced to 30 days in prison and a stimulus bill comes by in that time, it should effect my tax rebate? Conservatives really don't count prisoners as human beings, do they?

Obama might rule, but not for long. Some of the checks went to dead people.

When I was in jail I wrote the government and asked them to exclude me from the population census.

And this law in specific allowed people who hadn't been in prison in any of the three months before the stimulus package was produced to receive checks.

you wouldn't go to prison for only 30 days.....you would do your time in the county jail.....

I love Joe Dirt, but even he with the toe fu education at Cal can't believe those were the only mistakes.
