Mary Jo Kopechne back in spotlight

From: http://www.examiner.com/x-5919-Norf...t-ChappaquiddickKennedys-story-still-doubtful

"The diver who recovered Kopechne’s body, John Farrar testified at the official inquest that her body was found where the air pocket would have formed. He said: “Had I received a call within five to ten minutes of the accident occurring, and was able, as I was the following morning, to be at the victim's side within twenty-five minutes of receiving the call, in such event there is a strong possibility that she would have been alive on removal from the submerged car.”"A body will float wether it is dead or alive. The body would have floated to the same place any trapped air would have gone. This actually contridicts what I have read. I saw a quote saying he said it was a slim possibility. A tow truck driver may not be the best medical examiner.

Kennedy's own testimony was: "I came to the surface and then repeatedly dove down to the car in an attempt to see if the passenger was still in the car. I was unsuccessful in the attempt. I was exhausted and in a state of shock."

But oddly enough, after getting out of the water, he jumped back into the water and swam the 500 feet across the channel to Edgartown.
You do realize that these things did not happen in quick succession right?

Evince, you talk about what the evidence says, but the true evidence is so sketchy as to be almost unuseable. No accident has perfect evidence

There was no autopsy done on Mary Jo, so ther eis no way to know how she actually died or how long it took her to drown. The local police treated Kennedy like such a celebrity that their work is hardly laudable. In fact, the police chief gave up his office so Kennedy could make phone calls using his desk.
A medical examiner examined the body. There are tell tell signs of drowing that a medical examiner can spot without cutting the body up. Autospys were not seen by family members they same way they are now.

So now you are going to insult the professionals involved and yet hold a tow truck driver to high hieghts to see it the way you want to see it?

Froggie's being honest. Everyone else just wants to crucify.

I have no interest in defending Ted. He was a pretty arrogant son of privelege, who by most accounts was a lifelong drunk (and a bad one, at that). If I had to wager a guess, I'd say he completely panicked, assumed she was dead and was afraid to turn himself in because he didn't want to go to jail.

That probably characterizes the majority of the population in circumstances of dubious legality. It certainly doesn't make him admirable, but I sincerely doubt he's the killer many on the right paint him as.
He didn't have the balls to kill her, but he also lacked the integrity to save her.

Lets not forget he was diagnosed with shock and a head injury.

How many of you know he was wearing a back brace at the time because of a nearly fatal plane crash?

he was the diver you moron....

I would have called the cops. He was cognizant enough to know her life was in danger. Cognizant enough to tell his friends. Yet NONE of them called the cops. Knowing your ass is in trouble vs. your ass is in MORE trouble... hmmm... which would I choose?

I am so glad that you so sure of your actions. It was wrong, and he has paid the price for 40 years. I guess you guys would have only been happy if he had received the death penalty!

keep beating this dead dog! just say what you really want to say, thank go the fucker is dead. he should have been killed forty years ago!

Who is painting him as a killer? Most of us are simply responding to Desh's absurdity that he was in shock, yet he also tried to save her. He was able to tell his friends, but not the cops.... that he didn't have much to drink according to someone at the party.... blah blah blah....

Then you come on with your... 'has anyone ever been in an accident, it is very disorienting' which appeared to be backing Desh's comments. So I again responded to that.

He was drunk and knew his ass was in a lot of trouble, what would you do, now honestly?

Now honestly what would you have done?

great....so you admitting that at a minimum he is guilty of manslaughter...

it doesn't matter one whit what i would have done....it matters what he did...period

I started to walk home after the scene of a bad accident, I was in Deer Trial Colorado, but I just wanted to get home! I had a head injury, but i was still walking home!!!!!

I wasn't drunk and neither was the person driving, but we were all in shock!

I am being honest, no one knows how they will react, we can all state what we think we will do, but when it comes down to it, unless you have been there, done that, you just don't know.

No, he didn't pay any price for his actions. None. Had his last name been any other than Kennedy, he would have been in jail.

But please, continue with your exaggerations and strawmen. I do not like Kennedy's positions on most issues.... but that doesn't mean I wanted him dead... though I most certainly wanted him out of the Senate...

HE WAS DIAGNOSED WITH SHOCK AND A HEAD INJURY!

again, it is conceivable that a person could exhibit the effects of shock, not to mention head trauma. However, I again point to the fact that Kennedy was not in shock if he was able to go back and tell his friends about what occured and then proceeded to go back to the scene with them and try to rescue her. He was cognizant enough to tell his friends... but not the cops? That does not fly.

I agree with you that he was likely drunk and trying to cover his own ass. But enough with the 'shock' crap.

A lot of people do.

Honestly, it bugs me when people insert themselves into situations like that, and say what they would have done. I'd wager many of them wouldn't be as heroic as they think.

Regardless, this is a dead horse, literally. Mary Jo is dead, Ted is dead, and no one can offer anything beyond conjecture as to his mental state, the circumstances, and what is likely and what isn't.

Chappaquidick will forever be tied to Kennedy, and is as much a part of his legacy as all of the legislation he was part of. Maybe he didn't go to jail, and maybe he should have - though I think that the evidence is flimsy even without his ties - but to me, that seems punishment enough, even if the worst conjecture is true.

Shock makes you do things on auto pilot, so it isn't as much crap as you have convinced yourself it is, talk to a heath care professional for all the unusual stories of how people act when they are in shock, and it is a physical condition and one does not know how they will act.

A know of a story of a woman who was able to pick up an automobile when she was in shock. Could she have done that under normal circumstances.

I don't think Kennedy intended to kill the young woman and that is what all of you are trying to suggest here!

Thanks for bringing reason to this conversation!

You are absolutley WRONG.

Shock will cause someone to seek comfort and the friends at the cottage were comfort.

He had a head injury and was in shock. He was not thinking clearly.

A DRs diagnosis of a head injury and shock is not conjucture

He wasn't thinking clearly because he was DRUNK and out to save his own ass and political career..

Again with the strawman, i have stated multiple times I dont think Kennedy intended to kill her.

LMAO... yet no one thought to call the cops when Kennedy told them what happened desh? Were his friends in shock too? Please, it was CYA all the way.
