Ted's Legislative Legacy

This is intended as a non-Mary Jo thread. I know he's been involved in shaping health care legislation throughout his career but don't know the depth and details of it. How much of our current system was he really involved in negotiating? What would you say his best and worst pieces of legislation (or ideas he fought for) were health care wise?

He sponsored 500 pieces of legislation, that is all I know without looking.

He was a tireless fighter for vets and the school system, whether you agree with his positions on these matters, he fought hard for them!

Teddy, Teddy, hes our man....if he can't drown you, nobody can....

the first Senator to propose legislation opposing the troop surge two years ago. Kennedy has certainly had his fair share of questionable judgment (No Child Left Behind, anyone?) and who knows what led him as a young man to wait a day before reporting that awful accident on Chappaquiddick.
Could it be he was freekin' drunk as a skunk....???

You are a tired, old man, go take a nap, you are at that grumpy stage of your life!

And other fun times from the old days....such a wild and crazy guy....

Reports over the years have chronicled the dynamic liberal duo's La Brasserie exploits, like this one in the Hartford Courant:

"Dodd and Kennedy were also reported to have made a 'human sandwich' with a waitress at La Brasserie, another Capitol Hill restaurant. The report had it that Kennedy threw the woman on Dodd, who was slumped in a chair, and then jumped on top of her. She was said to have run screaming from the room."

The victim herself detailed the attack for Penthouse magazine in 1989, which was summarized by the Washington Times:

"When she put in an appearance in their private retreat - 'The Teddy Kennedy Fun Room' - the Massachusetts senator picked her up and heaved her onto a table. The crystal candlesticks and champagne glasses shattered as he grabbed her again and flung her on top of Dodd.

"Then Kennedy threw himself on top of the woman. The waitress implored Mr. Kennedy to 'Get off me!'

"Another waitress entered to find 'things all tipped over and Kennedy was on top, [the waitress] was in the middle and Dodd was on the bottom.' At that point the sandwich was disassembled."

Someone ought to right a book....a factual book......

In the long downward slope of Sen. Edward Kennedy's private life and public career, what happened at the family's Palm Beach, Fla., retreat last month may, in retrospect, mark the point at which sorry decline turned into free-fall. During what the Senator would later call "a traditional Easter weekend," a late-night gathering involving wine and women took an exceedingly ugly turn. In the early hours of March 30, as Good Friday became Holy Saturday, Teddy and his younger son, Patrick, 23, drank with a woman they had met at a bar, while another claimed she was raped on the grounds of the Kennedy estate. After the alleged victim went to the police, authorities moved so cautiously that cynics thought they detected a cover-up; no one on the local police force, it seemed, wanted to be the first to point the finger at America's most prominent political family. For those who remembered previous Kennedy embarrassments, the Palm Beach story seemed all too familiar.

Oh...did I mention Kennedy got expelled from Harvard for cheating.....

You will keep these things in mind tonight while the leftest media slobbers all over this guy

Just a typical fun guy...great guy to have a beer with...but don't accept a ride, walk...

while at the University of Virginia Law School, which again his family pulled strings for him to get into, he was cited four times for reckless driving. The violations included running red lights while driving 90 miles an hour through a suburban neighborhood at night with his lights off. He was convicted of three violations, but never lost his license.

Aren't people who accept rides from drunks just as much at fault when they are hurt in an accident?

Are they totally blameless for getting in a car with a person who is too intoxicated to drive?

Just wandering about sane people's thoughts on this idea!?

Well, you did encourage me to ride with a drunk, what would you call that if I had done it to you. You would be yelling and screaming and moaning and grumping! I just beat you to the silly punch.

and if I am not making sense, well, this is how I feel about 50% of your posts!

myself, I'm sick of turning these career politicians who do nothing more with their lives then suck off the taxpayers into some friggen hero, saint..the Kennedy clan were and are all a bunch of bloodsuckers who has lived off the taxpayer all their lives..

Teddy Kennedy was no President, he was a career politician who couldn't get off his fat ass to go get a real job and contribute to society... he was far from being some hero...
He is dead, so now move on and be rid of him..

PLease please.....you can't surely give me hell for something I actually say or write, but not for something that comes from your imagination....
Surely you realize the unfairness of bitching at me for something you imagine I might do...
So lets just stick to the words as written....
Now...all I said was "what the hell, take a chance"....:cof1: Thats doesn't wish you harm in the least..
