actually, the phrase CAN indeed be used in a more general sense.... however, when used when speaking about ways for a lily white political party to beat a black man, it still retains its original meaning.
and, not surprisingly, white racist republicans hide behind the assertion that it was not used in any racist manner at all while they simultaneously reap all the benefits of pumping up their racist base with it.

Yes, it is racist and will always be racist. Its usage is to defend an idea that should be separate from the color of a person's skin.

it appears you haven't even read or heard her remarks.....she wasn't even talking about obama...and your opinion as to whether she meant it as racist is not fact, despite you trying pass it off as such...
if republicans are reaping the benefits as you "claim"....it solely liberals like you who are the cause, for it is solely liberals like you that claim it is racist...thank goodness not all liberals are like you....

I’m inclined to cut Jenkins some slack. I doubt she meant “great white hope” literally, and she probably had no idea about its troubled origins.
