Twitter reportedly nearing deal to sell itself to Elon Musk

Trump not going back to Twitter is the rumor

I'll bet any amount that if he is allowed to rejoin he'll do so in a heartbeat. It's just too big a platform for him to choose to stay away from.

I get that he's the shiny object here but to me it takes away from the positive changes to the platform Musk and crew could make by focusing on him. The issues with Twitter are far deeper than any one individual.

I sure didn't hear a lot of fuss about free speech when the Trump White House banned certain reporters and news outlets from pressers.
Acosta was banned put "his hands on a young woman just trying to do her job as a White House intern" - the tape shows he pulled the mike back but didnt touch her. Still he gets banned for being the consummate asshat

Banning a reporter from the pool is in no way comparable to banning (deplatforming) anyone from social media. That's a gag order across media, not just WH access

well he put out a statement he's not going back (he got Nunes trying another start up)
I completely agree with you on "deeper issues" - like secret algorithms and heavily biased sanctions

I caught the end of the Twitter announcement as well -claiming they were the "new public square"
when in fact they ran Twitter like private fiefdom

I'm guessing he said that because there's no guarantee he will be allowed back on the platform. This way, if he isn't, he can say he was never going to come back anyway.

Twitter, Elon Musk Deal Could Be Announced Monday
Turn of events comes days after the billionaire unveiled his $43 billion bid for the social-media company

Congratulations to the first African American social media owner.

Can you imagine how this looks to the Trumpsters who just sunk a bunch of money into trying to build a competing services? Now they're in the weird position of having to pray Musk doesn't open the doors to alt-right posters and the big orange goon, because if he does, their whole business model is dead.

Twitter executives are worried.

I'd be surprised. They're all significant Twitter shareholders who will get a huge cash influx when those shares sell, and they also likely have golden parachutes, so they'll get a second big payday if he decides to install his own team. They're probably spending their day deciding which private island they're going to buy. The people who are worried are those who sunk money into the competing right-wing Twitter competitor, which now is in a position where its only hope of survival is that Musk doesn't follow through on his open-platform rhetoric.

This time I think he's trying to support his start up..if that flops -sure he'll go back to Twitter

but it's good for free speech -a new platform or a reformed Twitter -or both

You're right that it isn't comparable. What the WH did is so much worse. The WH isn't private.

And that is why they put a poison pill in to try to prevent the sell of Twitter. A lot of their stock options they got when twitter was up in value are now worthless.

nope reporter access is privileged. WH puts put press releases for anyone, but personal reporters can be banned.. Twitter complete banning of politic speech is "un-American"
see how it sucks to hide behind "private" when talking about political speech/coverage?
