The parents choose to both work so they can have more material posessions and keep up with the neighbors so to speak.
When they both choose to work they also choose to devote less time to their children.
They are choosing to go with what the advertising media tells them to do.

Of course in many situations both do have to work to get by on the lower end of the education/income spectrum.

I am very spiritually enlightened about things that truely matter. To me at least and those around me.
