MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A former Minneapolis police officer pleaded guilty Wednesday to a state charge of aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter in the killing of George Floyd.

As part of the plea deal, Thomas Lane will have a count of aiding and abetting second-degree unintentional murder dismissed. Lane, along with J. Alexander Kueng and Tou Thao, has already been convicted on federal counts of willfully violating Floyd’s rights during the May 2020 restraint that led to the Black man’s death.

The state is recommending a sentence for Lane of three years — which is below state sentencing guidelines — and has agreed to allow him to serve the time in a federal prison. He has not yet been sentenced in the federal case.

9 months of only seeing their jailer, being a Floyd killer, too dangerous for the general population is my guess.

Three year :(

Not commenting on the length of the sentence, but any time in a prison for a former police officer is brutal, not to mention his loss of career and status in the community, he’s usually not a criminal, so it is a whole new world, and one hostile to him

So he should be let out at 9 months instead of serving 3 years?
He should serve what the parole board thinks he should serve, just like everyone else. He should be in the main population like everyone else, but the system will protect him, because he’s an ex cop.

There is no parole board in Minnesota

but the Judge thinks he should serve 3 years ...whats wrong with serving what the judge or jury states in their sentence?

He agreed in the plea to do 3 years...so why shouldn't a person serve the full time that was agreed to ??

Interesting, then he’ll serve two years in prison and the rest under supervised release.
Minnesota uses determinate sentencing. Under this system, there is no parole board and no time off for good behavior. Individuals serve two-thirds of their prison sentence incarcerated and the remaining third on supervised release.
