Tens of thousands protest Chavez in Venezuela

I just LOVE these Hugo Chavez threads.

Hugo is going strong, making connections all over the world, and is more relevant that any leader of Venezuela has ever been.

You know .. like Castro .. who has seen 11 American presidents come and go.

:0)

making the case for dictatorship, are we?

making the case for dictatorship, are we?

Making the case for keeping our noses stuck in our own shit and leaving the rest of the planet alone.

It's not as though we don't have enough shit of our own to deal with .. in fact, far more shit than the Venezuelans have to deal with.

Perhaps the "dicataorship" you speak of is having the US overthrow yet another democratically elected government and installing OUR dictator in Venezuela as we did in Iran and elsewhere.

, Venezuela — Tens of thousands marched through Venezuela's capital on Saturday to protest what they call growing authoritarianism by President Hugo Chavez.

snip

There were no reports of disturbances Saturday.

(This version CORRECTS that opponents were arrested for alleged violence during protests, instead of during the protests.)

I don’t know what your international travel experience is like, although I suspect that for you going to the Wal-Mart in the neighboring County is considered an exotic experience.

Unlike most Americans, who are too lazy or apathetic to protest their government, this kind of shit happens all the time in Venezuela, under every government they’ve had, as far as I know. Street protest is a time honored tradition there. I was in Merida few times during pre-Chavez times, and it’s seemed like hardly a day went by without college students protesting in the streets, burning a car, or getting chased off by government troops. I’m not sure why the American reich wing gets as giddy as a school boy after his first beer, every time they hear someone complain about Chavez.

What’s the deal with the reich wing obsession with Chavez, anyway? He’s not going to attack the United States. And by South American standards, he doesn’t appear to be any worse than most of the leaders they’ve had and perhaps he can be considered far better than most of the riech wing governments they’ve had.

Does a street protest in Caracas really make your day?

So we should have stayed out of WWII; because that way the Japanese wouldn't have attacked us.

I wonder if the Germans and Japanese would have left the America's alone, after dividing up Europe, Asia, and Africa?

Yet another ill-informed post.

Stick to bumper-stickers brother.

.. oh yeah and by the way .. we goaded the Japenese to attack us .. knew they were coming.

Don't know history .. not my fault.

And our little neocon stooge STY forgets that Chavez was fairly elected, and survived a coupe that the American press announced BEFORE it actually happened.

Chavez isn't perfect, but he and others in South America are no longer going to let the SOS stand.

you're still an idiot moron that either can't remember i'm a Libertarian or too idiotically entrenched in your moronic liberal platitudes to understand that there is more than 'left' or 'right'. I KNOW Chavez was fairly elected. it's what he's chosen to do afterwards that raises questions.

maybe some day you'll come out of your moveon.org shell far enough to understand that there are more political flavors in this country other than 'yours' and 'neocons'. I highly doubt it though. You haven't shown a large mental capacity to handle more than two dimensions since i've seen you here.[/QUOTE]

Translation: I voted for George Dumbya Bush and Dick Cheney, not just once but twice, but I don't want to be reminded of it or be held accountable for it.

Pretending that nobody can learn from, nor should anybody notice, what happens elsewhere and supporting whatever "democratic socialist" you can is more like it. IT doesn't matter if he holds the reigns of the news agencies, it doesn't matter reports of violence against protesters and opposition supporters... nope, the news agency from Venezuela says it's all good so BAC thinks it is all good...

So far nobody suggested doing anything to or about Hugo, yet you straw man it up and pretend it means we should invade or pay the opposition or some other nasty thing we did in the past.

how does your 'brain' interpret 'voted 3rd party in 2k4' as voting for Bush twice?
is this the intellect of the liberal wing?

Lately, yes.

I fully expect Onceler to come in and tell me how I "used to be a solid poster" sometime soon because I expressed an opinion.

you're still an idiot moron that either can't remember i'm a Libertarian or too idiotically entrenched in your moronic liberal platitudes to understand that there is more than 'left' or 'right'. Stop pissing your pants, toodles. Like I told you before, Libertarians are a fucking joke.....a bunch of clowns like you who half the time spew the same bilge that can be found in NewsMax or the WND or by Malkin and the like. You just don't like being associated with yahoos like the ones storming townhall meetings. TFB, you talk like them, you get the same label. I KNOW Chavez was fairly elected. it's what he's chosen to do afterwards that raises questions.

Only because you IGNORE the whole picture. When Chavez floated the idea of extending runs for office, his supporters said no and he dropped the bid. Likewise, you ignore the fact the the major business and news media in Venezuela were part of the power structure of the previous gov't that had for years screwed it's working class. Which is why some of your statements are just plain wrong....you leave out information that is not conducive to your viewpoint.

maybe some day you'll come out of your moveon.org shell far enough to understand that there are more political flavors in this country other than 'yours' and 'neocons'. I highly doubt it though. You haven't shown a large mental capacity to handle more than two dimensions since i've seen you here.

Translation: STY gets his panties in a bunch whenever I point out how is BS is EXACTLY in step with the rest of the neocon parrots. His self delusion of intellectual superiority is a joke, like his screen name, like his proud "libertarian badge".

Aahh, but you forget that the news agencies were part of the former power structure, the opposition that made no bones about hating losing out in a fair election. The "violence against protesters and opposition supporters" reported not only by these bias folk, but by an American media that reported an attempted coupe BEFORE it happened. Chavez is not perfect, but those trying to undermine him are not innocent, honest folk.
So far nobody suggested doing anything to or about Hugo, yet you straw man standard neocon reponse to anything that threatens their dogma it up and pretend it means we should invade or pay the opposition or some other nasty thing we did in the past.

Given our history in South America and that our so-called liberal main stream media were reporting an attempted coupe by right wing Venezuelan opposition BEFORE it happens gives one pause not to think anything is out of the realm of possiblity.

A brilliant man who did what was best for the country. He put your interests ahead of his own, mememe! It's called service.

OMG that makes me laugh.

Seriously, you idiots are such hypocrites. I bet you never even listened to or read any of the outrageous shit that douchebag was spouting.

You honestly believe he stepped down, too. LOL fucking delusional. ain't no way that proud black man stepped down on his own.

The reason we are trained to not like chavez is because of his nationalizing oil and businesses, thus reducing profit potential.

You anti Hugo types are just being used by big business. It is his and the people that elected hims country, they can do what they want with it as long as they do not harm us.
Multi-national corporations do not count as us.

Yup. Again, pretending that pointing out something that happens elsewhere means that we are suggesting a solution for them.
