I guess everything is relative, but for their qualifications, government employees are poorly paid. They get job security, and the knowledge they are serving their country, but not a "huge salary" by American standards.

Correct. I know a couple of people who work for the government, and they talk very freely about their pay grade. It is not exactly the salary, but yes, the range.

The only reason to take the fifth in a civil suit is if answering the questions will likely reveal a crime. Because it is a civil suit, the NY AG can't prosecute Trump for any statements he makes unless he lies under oath. So the only reason for Trump to not answer the questions is out of fear he will reveal he committed a local or a federal crime since those are the only two entities that could indict him based on his testimony unless he were to commit perjury.

...which tells me the State of New York is going to be incentivized to dig deeper into Trump's numerous crimes.

Some here remember that Trump was strongly advised against running for President precisely for this reason: Giving others a reason to investigate his business activities.
