AP source: Census worker hanged with 'fed' on body

WASHINGTON — The FBI is investigating the hanging death of a U.S. Census worker near a Kentucky cemetery, and a law enforcement official told The Associated Press the word 'fed" was scrawled on the dead man's chest.

The body of Bill Sparkman, a 51-year-old part-time Census field worker and occasional teacher, was found Sept. 12 in a remote patch of the Daniel Boone National Forest in rural southeast Kentucky. The Census has suspended door-to-door interviews in rural Clay County, where the body was found, pending the outcome of the investigation.

Investigators are still trying to determine whether the death was a killing or a suicide, and if a killing, whether the motive was related to his government job or to anti-government sentiment.

Investigators have said little about the case. The law enforcement official, who was not authorized to discuss the case and requested anonymity, said Wednesday the man was found hanging from a tree and the word "fed" was written on the dead man's chest. The official did not say what type of instrument was used to write the word.

FBI spokesman David Beyer said the bureau is helping state police with the case.

"Our job is to determine if there was foul play involved — and that's part of the investigation — and if there was foul play involved, whether that is related to his employment as a census worker," said Beyer.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that they will find foul play was involved. Just a guess....

Yeah, that was pretty much my observation too.

I can't imagine the dude going to the graveyard, finding a nice secluded spot, writing "FED" across his chest then committing suicide by hanging...

This is bizarre to say the least. I talked my 20 year old out of doing census work because she would find herself in situations alone with someone she did not know. Going door to door alone is not safe work these days. A lot of women, young and old, pick up part time work like census worker to make ends meet. Here in WA they have a log of calls they have made on electronic devices. I wonder if this guy had such a system to his avail.

I think its a plot BY right-wingers to make it look like a plot by left-wingers mascarading as a crime by right-wingers.

Or it could be a suicide.

Yeah, I'd try to talk my daughters out of any job like that, walking about alone in strange neighborhoods knocking on doors.

At times DNC reminds me of the people in the new search engine Bing commercials you see out from Microsoft. You feed them a word and they start reciting facts and random associations to that word whether they have significance or not.

Since your fellows were seen with weapons at presidential events and some of the ill-spelled placards at teabagger "protests" hinted at violence, I'm not surprised that a weak-minded Faux-tard or two has possibly acted out Beck's fantasy by murdering a "fed".

I saw this yesterday; think it's an AP article. It happened in an area of Kentucky where apparently the guy was warned about walking alone. The person who warned him said that the locals are highly suspicious and negative about anyone working for the federal government. The victim himself was reported to be a good, kind person, but hopelessly naive with the attitude that everyone was good. This was a secondary job for him.

Poor guy.

Found it. Yeo that area is a big pot growing area with lots of presc drug problems as well. And just by coincidence KY has been making lots of roundup type drug busts lately. The poor guy probably got pegged as an informant.
