Obama tan suit controversy

On August 28, 2014, U.S. President Barack Obama held a live press conference on increasing the military response against the Islamic State (ISIS) in Syria while wearing a tan suit. Obama's appearance on television in the tan suit sparked significant attention and led to media and social media criticism. The issue remained prominent in the media for several days with the issue being particularly widely discussed on talk shows.

That's extremely small potatoes compared to the crimes, scandals, controversies of the Nixon, Reagan, and Trump administrations.

Your post actually helps to highlight how clean the Obama administration was by the standards of presidential history.

Al-Awlaki has the misfortune of having a father who was an Al Qaeda terrorist, and being in a war zone. Being technically an American citizen does not magically make that untrue.

It is odd that you are so upset about an air strike killing a terrorist, and a 14 year old child who was standing close to a terrorist. Al-Awlaki's half sister Nora al-Awlaki was killed by trump's commando strike. She was only 8 years old, and a US citizen.

I guess the difference is the skin color of the president.

Yeah Obama assassinated Anwar al-Awlaki on purpose knowing he was an American citizen without giving him due process. We bitched about Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman killing Saudi citizen Jamal Khashoggi but said nothing when Obama assassinated American citizen Anwar al-Awlaki with a drone.

Yeah Obama assassinated Anwar al-Awlaki on purpose knowing he was an American citizen without giving him due process. We bitched about Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman killing Saudi citizen Jamal Khashoggi but said nothing when Obama assassinated American citizen Anwar al-Awlaki with a drone.

Obama didn't like Anwar al-Awlaki's politics and Salman did not like Khashoggi's politics so they both were assassinated.

Due process is what you give someone who has been captured. Had al-Awlaki surrendered, he would have been given due process. He did not. Instead, al-Awlaki renounced his US citizenship, and made war on the USA.

Sorry, but enemy soldiers are going to get killed in a war. At least when you were talking about his son, who could renounce his citizenship(yet), and was not a soldier, you had some point.

Khashoggi was not a soldier, was not making war against Saudi Arabia, and was captured.

Walty that is a lie. The facts remain Obama did not like his politics so he assassinated him without due process. The very fact that you are lying about it shows what a scandal it is.

In order to lose his citizenship, it must be shown that the U.S. citizen joined the foreign military or swore allegiance to another state "with the intention of relinquishing United States nationality" — a very tough standard. There’s no evidence that Awlaki ever formally renounced his U.S. citizenship.

In any event, the Obama administration never denied Awlaki’s citizenship when it targeted him for assassination.

We run into the difference between renouncing and formally renouncing. Awlaki failed to enter a US consulate and formally renounce his citizenship in front of US consulate officials.

al-Awlaki could have had whatever political views he wanted, as long as he did not join Al Qaeda as an active member. He actively worked to attack the USA, and was a legitimate target of war. Had he surrendered, he would have gotten due process, but there is no such thing as due process in the battlefield.

Walty I didn't like Awlaki's politics but I don't like your politics either. We can't go around assassinating American citizens without due process just because we don't like their politics. It protects you just like it should have protected Awlaki. Obama is a murder. We arrest and trial criminals not summarily execute them
