One of my co-workers was murdered this morning...

damn dude....my thoughts are with you

and work should definitely cease, especially since it happened on work grounds, if the work is crucial to the nation, sheesh, why keep it open?

I'm sorry to hear that Damo. That's a bad day at work. Sure does put things in perspective. Three times in my career I've witnessed someone killed at work. Almost saw a man get burned alive had it not been for the quick thinking of one of my co-workers who saved him. I don't ever want to go through another day like those.

can we hear the "almost burned alive" story?

sounds exciting.

How'd the other 3 get snuffed?

Where do you work? (generally)

It helps my employees.

If you lose your job, you haven't helped anyone, including your employees. They'll simply have a different cross to bear.

Again, I apologize for your loss .. but as a business owner I recognize the difference between a BUSINESS decision and an EMOTIONAL decision.

Don't hate your employers for making a sound business decision even if it wasn't the one that felt best.

In business, sometimes obligations that precedent over all else and binds the hands of the obligated.

I mean no disrespect to you or the victim good brother.

Your mistake is believing that moral doesn't matter. That's what fascist assholes always believe.

I won't lose my job. At most I'll get a stern lecture.

I'm sorry, Damo, this must be horrible for all of you there. I think that you did the right thing, and your staff will appreciate you for this.

BAC, as a former finance manager, I can attest that staff loyalty to someone who treats them with fairness and compassion goes a long, long way to increase job competence and conscientiousness. Damo doesn't work in retail; those "doors open or closed" rules matter far less here. Although the decision wasn't made with the focus on the "bottom line", I'm fairly certain that it is the bottom line that will benefit in the long run.

But do you plead your case or just stay shutted the f up?
It depends on who and how they approach it. I don't think they'll say anything at all. The most likely scenario is they will look the other way and pretend they didn't notice.

We're the people who fix it when it is broken and who work the out of process magic. I'll work my ass off today so that what needs to be fixed is fixed.

I also noticed that some other areas followed my example after a couple hours of fruitless talking...

As you might imagine staying shutted the f up was never my strong suit.

I'll probably die in the gutter someday. That's fine with me.

Not demonstated anywhere in society.

Customers respond to closed doors by taking their business somewhere else.

not true....remember the walmart stampede....they shut doors...the customers came back...

when people die or especially murdered, true customers understand

They found her body in the parking lot.

It is quite a shock to watch business continue to go on.

What were they thinking when they didn't give us at least this day to get a bit of settled on us?
My, gosh, Damo, how are you doing, this has to be a shock!
