There is good reason they do not talk to the cops. The police do a poor job of protecting witnesses. Also, if the cops focused more on protecting people and property and less on rounding up the poor with drug stings, maybe the poor would see them as something other than a danger to be avoided.

Why does it seem that way to you? What sort of false claims do you imagine will do damage? If it's obviously phony they'll just ignore it. If it seems credible there is still going to be some investigation before it can be used to do any real harm.

Again it's mere speculation on my part, as it would be much easier to falsify a report using public servers or borrowed phones. Not that the current system is in any way immune to the same abuse, or the new one would be ineffective at its goal. I just see a potential for harm is all, and wonder how they will address that.
