WWI literally wiped out a generation of European men. By WWI Part Deux, most men were very young or very old. They were missing the critical section of middle-aged men with combat experience.

Agreed on the inspiration the Ukrainians have given the world by fighting for their freedom. Even had Ukraine collapsed within a few days, the guerrilla war would have raged on for a decade just as happened under the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan.

The Ukrainians clearly have the spirit and will to fight. All they need are the means. As Zelensky famously stated shortly after Putin attacked, "I need ammo, not a ride".

In a political sense, Ukraine has already won this war.

In February 2022 Putin defined Russian victory as the conquest of Ukraine, the replacement of the government in Kyiv, and the demilitarization of Ukraine.

Those objectives will never be achieved.

Ukraine is too heavily armed to be conquered by Putin, Ukraine will remain independent and oriented towards Europe, Ukraine now has long term security guarantees from NATO, and NATO had committed to eventually inviting Ukraine into NATO.


The only remaining question is whether Putin will be allowed to keep the thin sliver of land he now occupies along the shores of the Sea of Azov.

Putin's February 2022 definition of victory will never be achieved. Putin promised the denazification and demilitarization of Ukraine.

Ukraine is better armed than it ever has been, and there is exactly zero chance of Putin conquering Ukraine, replacing the Kyiv government with Russian lackeys, and turning Ukraine into a Russian vassal state.


The only question remaining on the table is whether Putin will be allowed to keep a thin strip of land along the shores of the Sea of Azov that is currently occupied by Russian forces.
