Foundation of Conservatism

Beginning from a mechanistic understanding of human beings and the passions, Hobbes postulates what life would be like without government, a condition which he calls the state of nature. In that state, each person would have a right, or license, to everything in the world. This inevitably leads to conflict, a "war of all against all" (bellum omnium contra omnes), and thus lives that are "solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short" (xiii).

Life is brutish and nasty. Modern societies are just a case of an elite denying the rest of us our own rights to use force. It's not more noble, or that different from "nature".

Hobbes is a moron.

Hobbes is a moron.

You have no right to use force. Actively denying people that "right" results in a considerable decrease in overall conflict.

If anyone thinks that society spontaneously organizes into their political philosophy in the abscence of government... they are insane or stupid. Whether it be marxists or libertarians.

So what is a 'desirable' state?

A 'desirable state' is a state to which one aspires but has not achieved and is probably different for each person.

ipso facto the term cannot be used in objective argument anymore than the term 'freedom' can.

Reasonable societies ask for the consent of the governed. If people are governed by force, it's not better that just being victimized by a giant assraping gorilla.

when people are governed, is it not true that some of the people will in fact be governed by force.....

you speed, you get a ticket, you don't pay, a bench warrant will issue, if they catch you, you are forcibly taken to jail.......

no, you're gay

it is subjective....it doesn't take a genius to look around at the many forms of government that are chosen by the people to see that the terms are in fact subjective.....

But that very subjectivity is only served in a free system. Different strokes for different folks, doesn't exist in a totalitarian regime.

Go lobby some more for failed fascist executive salaries. Go waste your life more on fascism like you're already doing.

Leave the thinking to nonbrainwash victims.
