I think whatever happens in NY, win or lose, Republicans are going to look bad.
The fact that the nut fringe of the party has gone and forced their hand to radicalize their party even further (can you find me a moderate Republican senator?) is great news since that only represents 20 percent of America. This is good news for the national election, and for the midterms.
The infighting only helps Democrats since its the moderates that lose. They're following the Dixie-esque logic of "our policies don't work, so lets move FURTHER right and see what happens," which is as retarded as it gets.

What do you consider moderate? I consider people like Olympia Snow and Diane Finestein as moderate. If you are coming from a far left position you would probably consider those two right-wing.

Snowe and Finestein are the most moderate Republican senators. But they aint no middle-of-the-road moderates. They're Reagan Republicans (at least Snowe is) and they aren't working with Democrats in any real way. Snowe pretended to play ball with health care, but wont consider allowing a vote on the measure if it includes a public option. That isn't moderate. The public option is moderate. If it were some single payer system and she wanted to filibuster, that'd be totally a reasonable moderate position to have. Filibustering the moderate position makes you not a moderate. That's how it works.
