R's sweep Virginia!

Liberal msnbc is calling Virginia and New Jersey a repudiation of Obama. Even the Obama lovers are basically saying he's all sizzle no steak.

Snowe and Finestein are the most moderate Republican senators. But they aint no middle-of-the-road moderates. They're Reagan Republicans (at least Snowe is) and they aren't working with Democrats in any real way. Snowe pretended to play ball with health care, but wont consider allowing a vote on the measure if it includes a public option. That isn't moderate. The public option is moderate. If it were some single payer system and she wanted to filibuster, that'd be totally a reasonable moderate position to have. Filibustering the moderate position makes you not a moderate. That's how it works.

/boggle....when did Feinstein become a Republican?.......and Snowe a Reagan Republican?......

I think whatever happens in NY, win or lose, Republicans are going to look bad.

The fact that the nut fringe of the party has gone and forced their hand to radicalize their party even further (can you find me a moderate Republican senator?) is great news since that only represents 20 percent of America. This is good news for the national election, and for the midterms.

The infighting only helps Democrats since its the moderates that lose. They're following the Dixie-esque logic of "our policies don't work, so lets move FURTHER right and see what happens," which is as retarded as it gets.
Nah, what it will do is pretty much write on the wall that social issues may not always carry the day and that the party may want to rethink that plan.

One Congressional race between the "C" candidate and the "D" candidate will not make or break the R party, and it is silly to hang your hat on that.

Obama visited Virginia and campaigned with Deeds, plus made TV ads trying to get the people of Virginia to vote for him. Can we say total failure for the democrats tonight.

Bashing Bush no longer can win Dems an election, and neither can Obama's coattails...they'll actually have to have a real platform now~~~

Chris Mathews looked like his mother died, then proceeded to basically call Obama a bag of hot air. It was shocking

This is a really odd takeaway from the NJ race. First of all, Cornize had dismal approval rating. Secondly, the New Jersey corruption scandal that involved mostly Democrats hurt Corzine further. Obama did what he could to help Corzine out as all Presidents do in these types of elections. But to suggest that Obama "really went all out for NJ" is pretty silly.

Moreover, the idea that Corzine's loss was a rejection of Obama kind of flies in the face of the way Christie conducted him campaign. Christie didn't run his campaign as a campaign against Obama. He sensibly focused on Corzine as Obama is actually quite popular in New Jersey. In fact, Christie embraced Obama in his campaign. Here is a video from the Christie campaign:

Based on the above, the suggestion that the Christie win was a rebuke of Obama is pretty silly.

obama campaigned for him no less than 5 times....even personally appearing jsut two days before the election to plea with voters that obama's agenda will be hurt if this guy loses....obviously, the majority didn't care enough about obama's agenda to vote for obama's pick

so, by any rational take of events, obama did go all out and did lose big time....that is a major embarrassment for obama
