Florida book bans - the first step before burning

I understand why you don't understand the nature of a pandemic, a global plague, Sybil. It's beyond you. You think that by ignoring it, it will go away. That's not understanding reality, son.

There is no 'global plague'. Covid19 is the mildest variant of the Covid/SARS series yet discovered. NONE of the Covid/SARS series of viruses kills.
The rest is just fear mongering and tyranny. Masks do not stop a virus. Paradox M.

If YOU want to live in fear so much, that's YOUR problem. Go ahead. Wear your mask. Look like a dork that can't think for himself.

Under educated are just dumb enough to vote for a man who committed treason Jan 6.
And a Political party that supports that treason!
There are highly educated, very wealthy people who vote Republican because they don't want to pay taxes. They held their collective noses and voted for trump, and it paid handsome dividends. I'm sure they did it in '20 as well.

And then there are the ignorant fools you mention above. They truly believe that the election was stolen, and Jan. 6 was perfectly normal. Further, they believe every one of the 30,000 lies that trump told while in office. There is nothing that anyone can say that will change their opinions, which is why Red states try to slash funding for education.

I agree that many Republicans were middle-of-the-roaders who probably would not have elected a syphilitic narcissist to be president, but he was the GOP candidate so they did what they had to do to ensure the GOP platform went forward.

I'm just not entirely certain if the dividends were worth it for the rank and file GOP voter. I know they were handsome for the ultrawealthy, but that's about it.

There was no election in 2020. The election faulted due to election fraud by Democrats.
Jan 6th was NOT perfectly normal. Democrats fomented a riot to frame Trump.

Making up numbers and using them as data is a fallacy. Argument from randU fallacy.
Indoctrination is not education.

When I went to school we didn't need sex ed. We already knew about stds, pregnancy, gays, and perverts.
Too bad your mommy and daddy didn't teach you about the birds and the bees.

I don't think I knew anything about homosexuality in HS even though we called people queer without knowing what queer meant! Even though in hind sight there were some obvious gay guys.
One always got a doctors note to get out of gym,but he sure liked passing out towels as we came out of the shower

Didn't say that!!!!

I asked, do you believe porn should be a part of sex ed?
Disagreed, but you are free to point out my errors, sir.

No. Define "porn". Not as a fucking lawyer, but with common sense. Showing pictures of one person and another person engaged in sexual acts should be above the age of pubescence. What is the problem with "age appropriate"? Where do you draw the line?

FWIW, I'm siding with the George Carlin philosophy of "I'd rather have my son watch a film with two people making love. Than two people trying to kill one another."

Less violence that way. :flagsal:

LOL What was the rate of syphilis in those days, sir? LOL

What's wrong with this picture? https://www.statista.com/statistics/622892/rate-of-syphilis-cases-in-the-united-states/

What is the solution? Most people have an idea on who to blame, but our nation needs to focus upon the goal.

IMO, we're failing because we're too concerned about ourselves than our grandkids, but I could be wrong.

Because DeathSantis wants a society where denying the existence of the individuals you mention will essentially relegate them to the far reaches of the state.

Yep, and that is what the person I was responding to wants as well. No (straight, Christian, white) child left behind.

Feds only contribute 8% of school money. What is the solution?

Put all that money -- whether it's from state (income tax/personal property tax) or federal taxpayers -- into the pot and divide it up per student, and disburse that to the school districts. Individual districts are allowed to raise separate levies if their taxpayers agree. There will still be a discrepancy in level of funding per school (rich vs poor) but at least it will be more equitable.

Agreed. The problem is selling it in a democracy. This goes directly to culture.

IMO, most sociological models should focus upon the fact people like their freedom. Sure, they like security too, but in the long run, they find they like freedom more.

And that's the fascinating part. Those who made out like bandits knew that trump was good for their portfolios.

The others voted out of spite, or because they actually believed trump's bullshit about hiking taxes on himself and his friends. Likewise for supplying 'much better insurance coverage at a fraction of the cost'. Ironic that he was one vote away from taking healthcare away from millions of Americans.

It seems that if they weren't from NY, they had no idea that trump was not a billionaire, and he was unable to tell the truth.

They believed he was the character he played on The Apprentice.

Funding school districts properly has zilch to do with freedom -- other than educating citizens is a good way to keep it. We already pay taxes. Distributing it equitably is the issue here.

That's exactly what Mr. Owl said when I bitched about how could that many Americans be so fucking STUPID to believe he was all that. I sure got the stupid part down right.

We already pay plenty in taxes but I'd be willing to pay more if it meant kids got fed for free at school. Some of our districts here even offer free meals for pick-up during school breaks.
During Covid, our school buses went to the house of every student who qualified for free lunch, and handed out food. For some, school lunch is the only good meal they get during the day.
