Robert F. Kennedy Jr. gains sizable chunk of Biden voters at presidential launch

What percentage of primary votes do you think Kennedy will get?

The primaries look like they will be basically uncontested, so turnout will be very low. I think Kennedy could really surprise us, and do far better than any sane person could predict. He might even get 2% of the vote in some primaries.

I know I am going far out on a limb saying that he could get up to 2% of the vote, but he does have that name recognition. Heck, I will go a little further, and say 3%.

I doubt this right wing kook will get any votes in a Democratic primary.

Honestly, you are probably closer to being right than me. Kennedy will probably get closer to 0% of the primary votes than 2%. He does have a shot at 2%, but that is farfetched.

I think it's a bit simpler than that- a lot of people are simply so naive that they actually trust the government's various pronouncements that the covid vaccines were "safe and effective", that masks worked to "prevent the spread" and that lockdowns were for their own good.

no "trust" involved in much of that -an UnConstitutional vaxx mandate, and ignorance that masks/vaxx stops transmissions were forced on the population

I'm pretty sure you know that I'm generally averse to buzzwords such as "woke". Trust in authority figures such as Anthony Fauci, on the other hand, is another matter entirely. I fully admit that when he started, I myself thought he was worthy of trust. I see things quite differently now, thanks in part to the work of people like Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who wrote a book on Anthony Fauci that I think is well worth the read:

The Real Anthony Fauci: Bill Gates, Big Pharma, and the Global War on Democracy and Public Health (Children’s Health Defense) | amazon.com

I suggest that you get over it, the words that I use are of my choosing, I am a militant free mind/free speech advocate, and I have a good grasp of what is going on making me a good person to listen to.

What do you mean by chops? That Nader had a better chance of winning the Presidency?

No, I'm talking about credentials. Nader was the ONLY candidate back then with a solid 30 year record of public service AND was NOT beholden to any political party, group or organization. His contributions to public safety are still with us today. Kennedy just doesn't have that on his resume.

Given how our political system works...neither would have a chance of becoming president...BUT...they can change the dynamics of the campaign conversations.

I think he does, though this is certainly the first time he's run for President. From his Wikipedia page:

From 1986 until 2017, Kennedy was a senior attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), a non-profit environmental organization. From 1984 until 2017, he was a board member and attorney for Hudson Riverkeeper.[5] Earlier in his legal career, he served as assistant district attorney in New York City. For over thirty years, Kennedy was an adjunct professor of environmental law at Pace University School of Law. Until August 2017, he held the post as supervising attorney and co-director of Pace Law School's Environmental Litigation Clinic, which he founded in 1987.[6] Kennedy's work on environmental law led him to be considered for the position of Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency in 2008.[7]

You may be right about RFK Jr. having a chance at becoming a President, but like you perhaps suggest, he can at least bring up issues that the other candidates otherwise wouldn't touch.

After Disastrous Debates in 2020, Democrats Have Decided to Not Hold Presidential Debates in 2024

The Washington Post reported Thursday that “the national Democratic Party has said it will support Biden’s reelection, and it has no plans to sponsor primary debates.” It’s understandable: the Dems have a president, of sorts, and so they’re counting on the power of incumbency to help their superannuated kleptocrat get over the top again. However, it’s also immensely disappointing, because after years and years of Democratic presidential debates being dreary displays of candidates trying to out-socialist one another, 2024 Democratic primary debates would have actually had something to offer.

Biden has two challengers, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Marianne Williamson. When Kennedy announced his candidacy on Wednesday, USA Todayreported that RFK immediately had the “support of 14% of voters who backed President Joe Biden in 2020,” according to a USA TODAY/Suffolk University Poll. Williamson had 5%, and another 13% were undecided. USA Today noted that “that is surprising strength for a candidate who has a famous political name but is now known mostly as the champion of a debunked conspiracy theory blaming childhood vaccines for autism.”

Biden will be reelected. Trump is an enemy of the United States.

Kennedy is running a simple little special interest campaign. His anti Vaxxing is against the party platform. He will go nowhere. The only thing on his side is Biden's age. But Trump is old too. I wanted Warren.

The evidence that vaccines can cause autism hasn't been debunked, just swept under the rug. Some great documentaries on that, vaxxed, vaxxed II and various articles as well. Here's some recent ones:

I think it's important to note that there are other environmental toxins that can cause autism as well. Some articles on that:

Like I said,m Kennedy is no slouch, but Nader does have the edge. From Wikipedia:

... in 1965 with the publication of the bestselling book Unsafe at Any Speed, a highly influential critique of the safety record of American automobile manufacturers. Following the publication of Unsafe at Any Speed, Nader led a group of volunteer law students—dubbed "Nader's Raiders"—in an investigation of the Federal Trade Commission, leading directly to that agency's overhaul and reform. In the 1970s, Nader leveraged his growing popularity to establish a number of advocacy and watchdog groups including the Public Interest Research Group, the Center for Auto Safety, and Public Citizen. Two of Nader's most notable targets were the Chevy Corvair and the Ford Pinto.

But Ralph is too old now....so I have no problem with Kennedy picking up the gauntlet.

Glad we agree that it's a good thing for Kennedy to put his hat in the ring. He may not have a chance of actually winning the democrat ticket, but so long as he's getting important issues into the mainstream, it's still worth it.
