Houston gets earliest snowfall on record

Houston had its earliest snowfall on record Friday, with several inches accumulating in counties southwest of the city.

The previous record for early snow in Houston was Dec. 10 in 1944 and again last year, said Charles Roeseler, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

Snow is rare in the nation's fourth largest city. In the past 15 years, it has snowed four times, including Friday.

Accumulations of 3 to 4 inches of snow were reported in counties southwest of Houston. The city got a half inch or less of snow, and its suburbs reported 1 to 2 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

"It's going to continue to snow through the afternoon," Roeseler said in the early afternoon. "We'll pick up another inch or so across parts of Houston."

The city and other parts of Southeast Texas were under a winter storm warning that was expected to remain until Friday evening. Other parts of Texas, including El Paso and Dallas, also had snowfall this week.

Many Houstonians took advantage of the snow day to venture outside and play. Parks were filled with adults and children making snowmen, engaging in snowball fights and posing for photographs.

It’s a documented fact that early snow fall is a classic sign of global warming.

I always love these posts.

It's like saying "I don't really understand science or global warming, in the slightest."

Nice job.

Pardon me, sorry to bother you, but you being a "global warming" expert and all, perhaps you could help me out. Can you please point me to a quote, any quote at all, by any believer in global warming where he/she claims that global warming means it's never going to get cold anywhere ever again.

Can you do that for me bunky?

On a side note, it never ceases to amaze me how otherwise ordinary people, in this case the people of Houston, can go absolutely batshit crazy over the THREAT of a little bit of snow. Not the ACTUAL SNOW EVENT, but just the POTENTIAL of snow.

Being from Colorado, I know what a REAL snowstorm is like, and the light dusting we got here in h-town yesterday sure doesn't count.

It hadn't even begun snowing yesterday, and all the local chalnnels were preempting programming to spend the day PREPARING everyone for the coming snow!

They CLOSED ALL THE SCHOOLS before it even started snowing! People had the day off from work! All because the NWS issued a "winter storm warning"! The fam went out for dinner last night and the streets were deserted! At least all that trerror kept a bunch of the usual crazies off the roads.

You boneheads always confuse AGW with straight-up global warming.

Know why? Cuz you're boneheads.

The rest here

Professor Easterbrook said that climatic fluctuations over the past few hundred years showed regular alternate cycles of warming and cooling, each lasting about 30 years.

On the basis of ice core data, he said global climate changes have been far more intense (12 to 20 times as intense in some cases) than those of the past century, and they took place in as little as 20-100 years.

"Global warming of the past century (0.8° C) is virtually insignificant when compared to the magnitude of at least 10 global climate changes in the past 15,000 years," he said.

None of these sudden global climate changes could possibly have been caused by human CO2 input to the atmosphere because they all took place long before anthropogenic CO2 emissions began.

Professor Easterbrook said that after several decades of studying alpine glacier fluctuations in the North Cascade Range in the state of Washington, "My research showed a distinct pattern of glacial advances and retreats (the Glacial Decadal Oscillation, GDO) that correlated well with climate records.

In 1992, Dr Nathan Mantua published the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO) curve showing warming and cooling of the Pacific Ocean that correlated remarkably well with glacial fluctuations.

You warmers are nuts, a polar bear died yestarday from ahh mmm!!!
cold temps???? no ahh hunter !!! naah to cold for those pussies to hunt up there.

Algore must have had a conference scheduled there then. :)

Nope, but another Goracle believer had to cancel his lecture.

Texas A&M's Gerald North was due to give a lecture on global warming's impact on Texas this Friday at the University of Texas in Austin. As the e-mail went on to explain, "Given the travel advisories issued and the likelihood of freezing weather for the Austin area tomorrow evening, we are postponing the December 4 event, Global Warming - Lone Star Impacts."

Still waiting on you to show me a quote from anyone connected with "Global Warming" that has said that "Global Warming" means it isn't going to get cold anywhere ever again.

You can do that, right?

I mean, you're the expert and I'm just a Liberal.
