What is woke about the lil mermaid?

Why is the actress not physically unacceptable for the roll?

Because that is not the way the character was originally envisioned, intended or created.

The black actress was only given the role to coddle and mollify black people.

To keep them quiet and not stirring up trouble.

Obviously that's OK with you and some other do-gooder types, but others like me, don't appreciate phoniness in any form, no matter who's doing it.

You guys are losing your shit over a mermaid. Hahaha!

Who's losing their shit again.....?

Who started this thread again.....?

And worse yet, you're oversimplifying the issue for the purpose of discrediting the arguments against what they're doing.

You're no better than those who tried to mischaracterize the J6 insurrection riot as "a calm, peaceful tour group during which a few people got over excited".

:cruisewhat:

That's actually pretty racist.

"The new Mermaid movie was created to calm down the black people."

That's pretty much what you said in a nutshell.

hahaha.

This post would be comedy if not so stupid.

We have over 100 years of Hollywood pandering to woke white males.

Not just for fictional characters but real life history where they would cast a white male to play a historical PoC.

It has ALWAYS been this way, and now it goes even slightly the other way you cry foul.

How long ago (in decades) was that happening?

In the 1950's?

Do two wrongs make a right?

Since when?

Are you enjoying life 100 years ago?

Talk about stupid.

Woke stupid.

The most fascinating thing about this entire conversation is that Halle Bailey isn't black....not sure why everyone is arguing about that... And it appears that the reviews for this movie are getting cooked...the voting and reviews that are appearing are following an unusual pattern...lol...;) Bottom line... it will never match up the original, but if you've got a couple of hours, a bunch of money, and no little kids, it might be worth your time...it won't be long before it hits Disney+ though, so just wait...

Remakes change things, otherwise why remake it? Why do you care so much? It’s fiction, it’s all made up.

How do you know why that particular actress was chosen?

She was chosen because she is black…but you knew that.

Well she isn't black you know... but she has a pretty voice and she knows Beyonce...;) It would have been a lovely production if they hadn't Rewritten everything...

Remakes and rewrites are two entirely different things...

Soooo....by your racist logic, the blond Bimbettes in the original Beauty and the Beauty were changed to brunettes for the live-action movie in order to coddle and mollify brunettes? Brunette Lives Matter?

Both are very common, I enjoy seeing an old story from a new perspective. Remember The Wiz?

I do ...my high school performed it.. and they didn't call it the Wizard of Oz did they because it wasn't...;)

It’s woke because the little mermaid is white in the movie and they changed her to black for political reasons

What political reasons? And so what? Did it hurt you in some way? Are you a little snowflake? Poor baby. Halle Bailey is brilliant. You are an ignorant hateful bitch.

So you’d have been cool with it if they had changed the name?

Did the original movie follow exactly the Hans Christian Andersen story?

It did not... do you know what parts were changed? And have you figured out the answer to your original question... what is woke about the new version?
