Good point about Weaver although I don't remember much controversy about the movies. Before Sigourney Weaver in Aliens, female actors were basically not allowed to be tough and lethal action heroes. They pretty much got limited to delicate flower roles, or the evil bitch roles.I’m old enough to remember some people’s outrage when they began to feature blacks and mixed race couples in commercials. There was the same reaction from people then as with the Little Mermaid, now. They survived then, they will survive now!
I don't think anyone under the age of 80 bats an eye anymore at a Lara Croft tomb raider or Jennifer Lawrence, Hunger Games film.
I do recall some women's groups complaining about the sexually revealing appearance of Lara Croft, which followed the artwork of the game. The Jumanji sequel even made a joke about it when Martha as Ruby Roundhouse said "Why am I wearing this outfit in a jungle? Tiny, little shorts and a leather halter top. I mean, what is this?"

The umbrage from the Alt-Right over Halle Bailey's skin tone is part of a long patten of Alt-Right white supremacy and bigotry. Being against "Woke" is simply code for white supremacy just like "America First" is code for white supremacy.
IMO, the whole "woke" thing was overblown to begin with, simply "civil rights" dressed up in 21st century clothing. The Alt-Right has taken this flash in the pan and weaponized it like Joseph McCarthy did with communism and "the Red Scare".
Rather than going directly against Trump's treason and past pedophilia, DeSantis has latched onto "Woke" as the basis of his entire platform. Fearmongering against commies worked for McCarthy and the Republicans in the 1950s. DeSantis is hoping fearmongering against wokeism will work for him in 2024.
