What is woke about the lil mermaid?

Her hair is red tinted in the movie. Ursula even calls her 'red'. Yes, there were minor, and I mean MINOR tweaks to song lyrics to reflect the changes in attitudes towards women in the decades since the original was made. Oh, boo hoo hoo.

Be curious, not judgmental. If you are curious you would see the film. If you are judgmental, you will let others form your opinion for you. Enough said. That saying really resonates with me. Part of why I loved Ted Lasso. It perfectly sums up the problems that are apparent in this thread. Lots of judgment, ZERO curiousity.

Good point. Lots of judgments, based on what some were told to think rather than direct knowledge, and which they embraced due to their innate prejudices.

I haven't seen either movie nor do I plan to. Nothing political, I just don't care for the genre.

You kids get outta my yard!!!!!!!

ROTFLMFAO. Damn dude, you are wound tight as a drum. Get over yourself. Seriously.

It is nice that we just had to scratch you a little and you went full racist. It was SOOOO easy.

Full racist and misogynist as well.

Apparently though, that is not allowed in their world. You MUST CARE about the things they care about. Honestly, there aren't that many things that are really important to me. Helps make life less stressful.

LOL. My kids were born in 1996 and 1999. MY KID turned me on to Biggie. You truly know absolutely nothing. It's amazing.

Because quite frankly, it looks to me like the childish blabbering of a 15 year old who hasn't spend much time at the library.

Anyone who would describe that low level, juvenile filth as genius has issues.

Are you really impressed by that trash?

He went from zero to 60 in about two seconds. But he keeps coming up with a new theory as to why I don't give a fuck about music lyrics. I wonder what the next one will be.

He does that.

A term for "zero to 60 in about two seconds" is "emotionally unstable". This could be for a number of reasons aside from mental illness. The most common causes are stress or pain. Due to the elderly demographics of JPP, I'm guessing pain to be the most likely but it could be stress from personal issues such as loss (e.g. death or divorce) or financial issues (e.g. bad investments or excessive medical bills).

I would suggest then, since this kind of thing enrages you, that you don't spend money to see it. Problem solved.

I did not forbid my daughters to watch Disney stuff when they were growing up, but I didn't encourage it either. I didn't want them to grow up with the idea that girls are helpless by themselves and need a man to 'save' them like many of the much earlier Disney movies (and fairy tales as well) seemed to suggest. They didn't. They are all three happily married, with college degrees and good careers and children. So they're none of your fictitious man-haters that you fear. lol

Why do you think my trying to have a rational conversation with you, who are apparently not capable of having one, makes me enraged?

Are you so used to just tossing zingers and accusations of racism at those who take opposing views instead of discussing, that it's all you know how to do?

I think a "black" actress was chosen for that role because Disney wanted to appease.

That is a criticism of Disney, not the actress.

Are you really too thick to get that?

The fact is noted that you cannot defend or explain what the value to society is, of filthy rap lyrics.

No surprise.

You mindlessly defend that which falls into the category of wokeness.

No need to think about anything.

Because you are a small minded bigot. Biggie was a genius. His ability to turn multiple musical influences into rap that spoke to a huge demographic was sheer brilliance. I find most rap is garbage, but not all of it. You have passed judgment without knowing anything. Because that's who you are. I'm glad my world is larger and more colorful than yours. I can't imagine how badly life must suck for you.

Dutch Carbunkle thinks he's a psychologist and can diagnose people based on message board postings even though he probably has about a 6th grade reading level.

Explain please.

What musical influences are found in his "music"?

Rockabilly?

Country western?

Classical?

British invasion?

Broadway show tunes?

Big band era?

What?

ROTFLMFAO!!!! Did you think rap was just invented? What the fuck dude, you are clueless.

The youngest of my two sons listened to hip-top when he was a teenager. I made him listen in his room with the door closed because he had two younger pre-teen sisters. He will be 42 next month.

You are wise. A lot of the biddies gossiping and screeching on this thread about other people here plus THAT MOVIE maybe should heed your example. It's a MOVIE. It's not worth becoming so enraged. Toxic, for one, has been on here spasming about THE MOVIE for five days now.

Agreed movies aren't worth becoming enraged over, but the emotionally unstable don't really need an excuse to become enraged. They just are. They have no more control over it than an epileptic has over their seizures.

Why do you think my trying to have a rational conversation with you, who are apparently not capable of having one, makes me enraged?

This is only your second post to me in this discussion; the other was a question, not a "rational conversation." I've read many of your posts so far, just today. You appear angry and irrational.

Are you so used to just tossing zingers and accusations of racism at those who take opposing views instead of discussing, that it's all you know how to do?

Strawman. I don't do that in lieu of conversation. Next?

I think a "black" actress was chosen for that role because Disney wanted to appease.

That is a criticism of Disney, not the actress.

Are you really too thick to get that?

1. Why do you care why Disney casts a role with any particular actor? Esp. in a genre you're unlikely to want to watch.

2. Why does Disney need to "appease" anyone? You deliberately chose that word over the more accurate "appeal to." Why would you do that?

3. When you need to resort to getting personal with insults, you've lost.

Maybe so. Maybe at some point, earlier or later depending on the person, you simply run out of things that give you joy in life. If that's inevitable I'll be fine with journeying on before that point. I'm not convinced though that it is inevitable. Guess we'll find out.

I suspect the inevitability is highly dependent on how much one has lost,
and how much one misses it.

I didn't grow up in a strict Middle American household.
Where I was, there was a lot of potential stimulation out there,
and I had access to most of it.
I was privileged to have a lot to lose, so now I must endure having lost it.

But then there's the real stupid thing I must stop imagining.

What would it have been like
to live in that world
when I had a little money in my pocket,
and more importantly, all the free time in the world?

Are you following me with that frustration?
If not, my fate is not inevitable for you at all.
You're fine, and I'm glad.

This is only your second post to me in this discussion; the other was a question, not a "rational conversation." I've read many of your posts so far, just today. You appear angry and irrational.

You have responded to others about me though, with the same old "he's just a racist/misogynist" trope.

Rather than address me personally.

Strawman. I don't do that in lieu of conversation. Next?

I would argue that. But we all do it.

I'm wondering why on this subject, towards me, it seems to have been your go to move.

1. Why do you care why Disney casts a role with any particular actor? Esp. in a genre you're unlikely to want to watch.

If they do this and nobody holds them accountable, when are they going to stop? Every time the POC/alphabet community complains about not getting enough of one thing or another, are companies all going to keep jumping to cede to their demands?

Like cancel culture, I think it's getting kind of silly.

This is an opinion forum and I have an opinion about it which I have expressed.

You and others wish I'd shut up, so I won't.

2. Why does Disney need to "appease" anyone? You deliberately chose that word over the more accurate "appeal to." Why would you do that?

I've addressed that more than once.

My opinion is that they are afraid of being portrayed as racist by the media and having their potential customers turned against them, affecting their profits.

3. When you need to resort to getting personal with insults, you've lost.

Exactly what I said when you referred to me as racist and misogynist.

You're very excitable....and appear to be overcompensating in a casual internet conversation. Why?

Anyone who would describe that low level, juvenile filth as genius has issues.

You know he is terrified of blacks. Remember when he told the story he was approached in a parking lot by a black thug and he surrendered his laptop? :rofl2:

He says anything to appease the church of woke. He probably puts shoe polish on his face and wears "tuck-friendly" garments.
