When corporations alter their operations solely in response to outside pressure brought by one or two special interest groups regarding their own social concerns, it is not good.
It is my BELIEF that is what happened with this film.
The attempts to reduce it to "who cares it's just a children's movie" indicates a lack of understanding of or concern for larger issues.
Not mine. they were trying to appeal to a larger audience since Disney is a treat to mostly white people. It was a business decision. They are about money.

They are shrewd businessmen who IMO, would have to have some kind of outside pressure on them to be forced into making such an obviously poor decision.
They probably knew they'd take it in the shorts, but figured the money they'd either lose or not make on this bomb, would at least be somewhat offset by the goodwill garnered for their woke image.
Now the POCs and alphabets might be more likely to buy their crappy, overpriced Little Mermaid merchandise and spend small fortunes visiting their parks.
