What is woke about the lil mermaid?

Oh, so white people never called white criminals thugs and gangsters etc?

Bullshit. Read a history book.

And these rappers who glorify gangsters (Gangsta Rap - their words, not ours) and murder each other over "beefs" are only trying to spread positivity....????

Puh-lease. :palm:

As far as "woke" is concerned, we all know what we mean by it.... political correctness and pandering to groups who've painted themselves as victims and treating them like precious, fine crystal artifacts that might shatter if you offend them.

You fucks are in the minority and you're never going to succeed in running over the majority with your broken down bullshit hooptie of a false narrative.

Fuck off. :fu:

What I take umbrage with:

As far as "woke" is concerned, we all know what we mean by it.... political correctness and pandering to groups who've painted themselves as victims and treating them like precious, fine crystal artifacts that might shatter if you offend them.

That is the "definition" given by hysterical right-of-center liberals & conservatives, MAGA mooks, teabaggers, neocons, fibbertarians and alt-right rummies.

Here's what the Oxford English Dictionary says:

Woke

Woken is the usual past participle of the verb wake in modern English, but in some historical and contemporary varieties the past tense form woke is also used as a past participle. Participial use of woke in some African-American varieties of English has generated an adjectival meaning that has recently become prominent in general American use, prompting the addition of a new entry for woke as an adjective. The original meaning of adjectival woke (and earlier woke up) was simply ‘awake’, but by the mid-20th century, woke had been extended figuratively to refer to being ‘aware’ or ‘well informed’ in a political or cultural sense. In the past decade, that meaning has been catapulted into mainstream use with a particular nuance of ‘alert to racial or social discrimination and injustice’, popularized through the lyrics of the 2008 song Master Teacher by Erykah Badu, in which the words ‘I stay woke’ serve as a refrain, and more recently through its association with the Black Lives Matter movement, especially on social media.

This well established but newly prominent usage of woke has become emblematic of the ways in which black American culture and language are adopted by non-black people who don’t always appreciate their full historical and cultural context. It is therefore of particular interest that the earliest citation for woke, adj. in the figurative sense comes from a 1962 article by the African-American novelist William Melvin Kelley in the New York Times, entitled ‘If you’re woke, you dig it’, which describes how white beatniks were appropriating black slang at the time. The article was illustrated with a cartoon of lexicographers struggling to understand ‘today’s Negro idiom’ (1962 N.Y. Times 20 May, p. 45).

Because of the term’s prominence in today’s popular culture, as well as the role it seems to have played in the 1960s and 70s, the OED Appeals Program is currently seeking any contextual evidence (i.e. not from a glossary or definition) of woke meaning ‘well informed’ or ‘alert to racial or social discrimination and injustice’ that dates from earlier than 2008.

Or. Now give me a second.

Could it be that old, pasty, white racists like you are dying off rapidly? Could it be that you finally acknowledge the loss of your unearned power and erosion of your white privilege yet refuse to accept it?

Get real. Woke is simply realization of the new reality. Kick and scream all you want, but we won a long time ago.

I would call you a bitter, old, dishonest bitch behind your back, but I'm better than you are and am determined to keep telling you to your two faces.
I have no problem with this reply, as I'm sure you have no idea why I posted that particular Bible story...so, it's all good...I taught HS...I'm used to kids who sometimes just don't get it and get tangled up in things they don't understand... that changes with patience and tolerance....One of the true joys of teaching...
I believe you said you taught at one time....so I'm sure you understand how that works...
PS...I am older....;) (Matt Rife is so sold out here...next time....;()

Everybody dies eventually, wokewit. You will too, someday.

And I've got another newsflash for you.... YTs still account for over 60% of the US population. If you count white Hispanics and Asians who identify as white, it's probably around 70%.

The percentage of the US population that identifies as part of the alphabet crowd is a scant 7%.

And honestly, if you people really "won a long time ago" as you so absurdly claim, then why are you all constantly still whining, crying and pissing in your drooping gangsta shorts and tranny panties over one perceived injustice or another? Why are you all constantly pouting and throwing tantrums like spoiled children who haven't gotten what they demand?

Claiming false victories is a common practice amongst losers.

And you're a loser, chump.

Yes, I've seen those overly convoluted, verbal gymnastic definitions of woke where the writers tie themselves in such knots trying to put a pro-black agenda twist on them, it takes three paragraphs of spinning and gyrating around reality just to arrive at their contrived definition.

First of all, I don't believe there is anything to be "woke" to or about. If anything, those of us who've appropriated the term feel that what we need to be woke to, is how certain perennial victim groups in our society are pushing a social and political agenda by playing on the sympathies of gullible "white guilt" sufferers.

IOW, I do not believe there are any socio-ethnic groups in this country who are being persecuted or oppressed by any other group, nor is there any discrimination or injustice being perpetrated against any group by another.

At least not on the scale they are claiming it to be on.

So then my question is... when are we, the supposed "oppressors", along with the supposed "leaders" of the supposedly "oppressed", going to start asking and expecting these supposedly oppressed victims, to take a good, hard look inward at themselves and admit there are areas where THEY need to take responsibility for their own lifestyles, attitudes, actions and habits which have largely contributed to and even directly caused them to find themselves in the situations they're in.

There are always two sides to every story, but those convoluted, contrived, tailor-made and overly academic definitions of woke you posted, assume all of the fault lies with one side, while the other is presumed to be innocent, blameless victims.

Sorry, not buying it.

"You just don't get it," is not something that a real teacher ever said, you pathological liar. Stop impersonating one on the internet and side snarking at strangers. And get a life for fuck sake.

So, you're both a loser and a liar.

Not surprising as the two go hand in hand.

You have no real, rational or intelligent response to me, so you lash out with your impotent, limp-wristed racial slurs.

Not a problem.

You can call me honkey all day long.

Doesn't bother me a bit.

It's a helluva lot better being a honkey than being the other thing.

I know you keep saying that, but there is no accredited school district in the country that would leave you in charge of children. You're also not smart or educated enough to be a teacher and demean the entire profession every time you impersonate one.

I've responded to you appropriately. A self righteous, self victimized, bitter, old, white racist who can't stay on topic gets all the consideration he deserves from me.

Thank you. We have real teachers in our family... one of my daughters, a daughter- and a son-in-law, two nieces. You are right. Every last one of them would be appalled at her toxic representation of the profession. She is not and never has been an educator.

Hmm, given the purposely revisionist and dodgy basis for your screed, I'll have to deconstruct it piece by piece so the reading audience can see your folly in no uncertain terms.

Your 1st paragraph: in trying to sound intelligent, you essentially demonstrate your inability (or unwillingness) to apply the basic reading comprehension skills we all learned in grade school and high school. In effect you attempt to portray your OPINION as a definitive explanation of the material presented, whereas all you actually do is just belch forth a myriad of generalities to avoid discussion of actual content. Let's see if you fair better as we go.

Your 2nd paragraph: Your "belief" is not relevant nor apropos to the content of the material given. The material explains historical origin and usage with regards to a minority of society and the appropriation of such by a segment the larger population. What you do is basically take the "long road" that leads to a reiteration of your original misguided and erroneous "definition". In doing so, you demonstrate the innate prejudice of all who "think" as you do...given the historical review compared to your current personal revised "definition/explanation". When FACTS are compared to Beliefs, facts win out every time.

Your 3rd paragraph: This is just some absurd level of denial on your part to support your "belief" in a revisionist definition couched in prejudice. Again, what you "believe" is irrelevant when compared to valid, documented historical FACTS. One cannot have a logical, rational debate with a person who's convictions rest not on facts and the logic derived from said facts, but on a faith in their own belief system. In effect you're trying to pass off debating how many angels can dance on a pinhead as "logical". :palm:

Your 4th paragraph: Your "questions" are essentially just a regurgitation of the nonsense I've previously addressed here...questions based wholly on what you "believe" and what you deny. Essentially, just self serving blather on your part.

The remainder of your screed is just more of the SOS (same old silliness). Like any religious fanatic, you're deaf, dumb and blind to reason, facts and history. My previous assessment of your diatribes stands. Carry on.

Oh, so anyone can see your REAL name, where you're from, etc., etc.? I mean, if your "credentials" are REALLY on line, it wouldn't be under the alias "TOP" now would it? That would be a god send for the "identity theft" hacker crowd.

If I had a nickel for every time one of your right wing wonks claimed to be a "professional" on some topic over the years, I'd could have paid off my taxes and have a nice surplus in the bank.

Give it a rest, toodles. You're embarrassing yourself.

Bingo. Thanks to her stalking me and others years ago, her real name was discovered by her targets. I know her location, what her shabby hovel looks like, her real name, and that it does not appear in the Ohio State Board of Education's site that shows professional credentials.

It's always wise to be suspicious of anyone who claims to have some sort of credentials, but who uses them to bash others with rather than to benefit them. Toxic has claimed to be a special ed teacher. My youngest daughter is actually a real special ed teacher, who has a masters degree. She would never "diagnose" some anonymous Internet person with various mental disorders -- while mocking them -- or say that some anonymous Internet enemy is having a "meltdown" or "is unwell," "needs help," is "psychotic," etc. Never, ever. Real educations, esp. in the fields of special needs students, have more respect.

:whoa: That's amazing! I mean, how delusional can someone be to continue blathering the SOS even AFTER their cover has been blown? Why Damo also this clown to continue on his site is pathetic, as she is a potential danger to others and herself. An acquaintance of mine had a blog site and was stalked/threatend to the point where his identity was revealed. Fortunately, he went to the cops/feds, and the creeps were tagged and bagged. Top is damned lucky you (or anyone else on this site) is not that vindictive.

Amazing. I'll have to ignore her from now on and block her from my threads.
