Juneteenth represents the day news of the emancipation reached Galveston TX. Nothing more. The actual emancipation proclamation is a thousand times more significant. Slavery in the US only ended with the ratification of the 13th amendment in December 1865. Up to that point five states that hadn't succeeded were still legally slave owning states. That too is far more significant.
