Socialist Hugo Chavez and the Climate Change Summit

This is more addressed to Lorax and Watermark as both do not really embrace the Socialism of Chavez and believe that the climate change summit is really about saving the earth.

I have long contended that the climate agenda is really just driven by hardline extremist eco-leftists who view environmental regulation as a very hard-to-oppose way to attack capitalism and if this isn't proof of what kind of people they are, I don't know what is. View the reaction to Hugo Chavez and what he had to say

"

President Chavez brought the house down.

When he said the process in Copenhagen was “not democratic, it is not inclusive, but isn’t that the reality of our world, the world is really and imperial dictatorship…down with imperial dictatorships” he got a rousing round of applause.

When he said there was a “silent and terrible ghost in the room” and that ghost was called capitalism, the applause was deafening.

But then he wound up to his grand conclusion – 20 minutes after his 5 minute speaking time was supposed to have ended and after quoting everyone from Karl Marx to Jesus Christ - “our revolution seeks to help all people…socialism, the other ghost that is probably wandering around this room, that’s the way to save the planet, capitalism is the road to hell....let’s fight against capitalism and make it obey us.” He won a standing ovation."

Hugo Chavez is a Socialist whose economy is centered around fossil fuel production, his state subsidies to the cost of fuel mean that people there pay the least by far for gas, just 12 cents a gallon
http://money.cnn.com/pf/features/lists/global_gasprices/
which is probably the least green policy on earth, yet nobody really faulted him for that and loved him for announcing that the reason they are there is to stomp capitalism and freedom into the ground.

This is not just an anomaly, he clearly wanted the eradication of capitalism and the free market and he was given a standing ovation for saying so. If you are honest and I think you are, then just see that for what it is.

Ocho Sinco said it best

Haters are confused admirers

All those countries would love to be us.
You're absolutely right and it's proven by how many want to move to America.
I guess I don't understand you though topspin, you used to be against turbolibs and I think we can safely say those are the people at the conference if they are going to give that a standing ovation, but you want to ally yourself with guys like cypress who admires Che Guevara or BAC who loves Chavez.
I understand that you probably want to see marijuana legalized more than any other thing government does, but is that really worth rubbing shoulders with the kind of people and party that is for killing the capitalism that has been so good to you?
Personally I think you are above it, and there are many people on the right who are ok with legalizing drugs too along with most Libertarians, even Dixie has spoken out against marijuana being illegal.

I hope you'll change your mind about the Dems someday.

I don't fit in either camp like many people don't.
I'm very fiscally conservative and socially very liberal. I believe democrats are near retarded on economics and business.
If more republicans were like superfreak, damo, Yurt etc who realize the drug war is a joke and less like Southerntool and the AOL MONKEY'S I'd prob swing back.
My main issue is MJ, but a close second is Oil. I'm and oil guy through and through. And democrats are even more retarded when it comes to oil, they'd rather pay the towel heads and cry about it than drill the billions of bbl's we have here.
Oh and third, the wars. I have 2 son's I'm not anxious to see die in some bullshit war like the 2 we have going now.
I know there are millions of moderates like me out there and Obama will piss them off enough to be the second coming of Jhima Carta if he doesn't buy enough votes or juice this economy real fast next year.

First, I'll call bullshit on the "standing ovation" and "brought the house down" crap.

Second, what Chavez claims Copenhagen is (or, rather, should be) about isn't necessarily true.

Third, why are you constantly on Chavez's nutsack? Seriously. Get a grip. No one really cares about Chavez except you.

I don't think it's that representative to judge based on political boards, believe me I've searched for boards to find moderates and most of them just aren't that interested in politics. I think the typical Republican is mostly fiscally Conservative, lives in a suburb, probably doesn't really care that much about drugs one way or the other, wants mostly for government to just leave them alone.

Yeah it's a funny observation but it's true. I remember saying just how tiny a portion of ANWR would be drilled (8%) but after awhile you realize you are just arguing against their religion or something and that you could be presenting any numbers you wanted and it doesn't make any difference to them at all.

Oh and third, the wars. I have 2 son's I'm not anxious to see die in some bullshit war like the 2 we have going now.
Well I look at history not just recent history on this, I mean the Dems wanted to go into Kosovo, Somalia and Haiti, a dem started Nam and the Korean war for that matter. I think the moderate Democrat is just fine with war so long as they call it peacekeeping and that a Dem is in charge.
Look at Chavez, out of all of South America, it's him the Socialist that is the most likely chance of starting the next war (with Columbia).

I know there are millions of moderates like me out there and Obama will piss them off enough to be the second coming of Jhima Carta if he doesn't buy enough votes or juice this economy real fast next year.
I just fail to understand how yet more government in healthcare will help with the economy or jobs. Oregon had universal healthcare, so does Mass, yet Oregon is leading the nation in unemployment for years until the car industry collapse, while Mass loses the most people every year.
And the same with the coming environmental regulation onslaught. How on earth are we going to keep and attract more job creating investment with policies of more regulation, more gov spending, far more debt and more taxes, including wall street taxes?
It's astonishing to me how some on the left really believe that they can help the economy while simultaneously attacking it. But what can you do?

Obviously I'm not entrenched as a democrat.
I worked for 25 years and invested about 3x what's typical to get wealthy.
Democrats would be all too happy to tax me to oblivion. NOT COOL

If no one really cares about him why was he allowed to speak 25 minutes instead of 5 and still given such a great reception?

Do you know why I consider Chavez important? Well you know all those on the left who always say that Conservatives are trying to scare people about Democrats being for Socialism and that they are not really that extreme? Well with Chavez you have that yardstick for really seeing whether or not that is true. That is you have a fully acknowledged socialist who quotes Marx, takes over business and implements as much social welfare as possible and what is their reaction to him? Do they denounce him? What is their reaction to him? I see not only defending him but lauding and applauding him.

Who cares about Chavez? You do and every other left wing Liberal Democrat, because he is where you are going and ultimately what you have to defend against in terms of your direction and it's very uncomfortable to have to deal with it right now in a country like America which is not yet anywhere near ready to consider that extreme of leftism.

But I'm not a marxist left winger. I'm not a communist. I'm not even really a socialist. I have discussed in detail why Marxist socialism was flawed from the outset. This is why Marxism is dead, communism is dead, socialism is dead.

And not even Chavez is a true Marxist. Marxism is retarded. It's based on the faulty notion that people naturally want to come together and share, which is obviously untrue. Without that, it's pretty much impossible to be an actual Marxist.

Being left wing does not lead to being a communist any more than being right wing necessarily leads towards being a white nationalist. Slippery slope fallacy.

If there were any easy spending cuts out there that wouldn't be insanely unpopular or impractical to make, conservatives would have made them during the last 30 years while they were raping and pillaging America of everything that made it great and giving it to the rich. The fact is, there weren't any, and that's why they financed this massive giveaway to the rich off of deficit.
