Rep. Jamaal Bowman pulls fire alarm ahead of vote to pass short-term funding bill

I saw the video on the news yesterday.

Maybe you need to find a better news source.

Which news channel? Every news channel and article I pull up show a still, not the video. Link us up, bro...

This former Principal who had up to 12 fire drills a year was confused as to how fire alarms work. He didn't pull it to evacuate the building... because he just didn't know how it worked! We totally believe him. Reasonableness is important when you lie like this.

I'd like to see a good picture of the door and fire alarm. If it's a conventional fire alarm, then I agree that's fucked up. If the door triggered it, the door that is usually open according to reports, then it becomes fuzzier.

The fact he supported the bill conflicts with the reports that he was against it.

I don't remember where I saw it. Maybe I saw the still picture and just thought I saw his arm move. I don't know.

The big question for me regarding the right's crying about the lack of video is - What's the BFD?

The still picture shows him with his hand on the alarm. He's admitted pulling it. What would the video do for you on the right?

Something else for you to post all over social media to distract more attention way from Trump's problems relating to his infinitely more serious crimes?

And BTW, I don't believe Bowman's story either.

If he had half a brain he'd have said that he thought he smelled smoke or something burning.

Nobody could have said he didn't and he'd have came across like a hero who was concerned about protecting people.

He's obviously a dumbass.

So you admit you are having hallucinations. Seek help.

The video may give us an idea if it was a planned event or if he was somehow the only veteran Principal from any school system that doesn't know how fire alarms work. Say he's watching his phone for a message to hit it "now", he puts the phone away and reaches for the alarm and never tries the door... We'd know he was a fat liar and it was a planned delay attempt, but they aren't showing it. Now, what if he walks up, tries the door, looks around, tries it again, never touches a phone, shrugs and tries the "if I pull this it will open this door" method of lockpicking and tries the door again... we'd know he's just the stupidest Principal that ever led a school, but an honest one.

Maybe the reason why the video hasn't been released is because it's being used by the authorities for their investigation.

Maybe they'll release it when they're finished.

Of course, acknowledging that ^^ would deprive you all of yet another opportunity to portray yourselves as victims of media bias or whatever nonsense you're trying to insinuate.

What is the most laughable about the right's poutrage is how you're suddenly offended by lying from a govt official after Trump lied his fat orange ass off for four years and is still doing it now while you all applaud every one of them.

If this Bowman idiot is lying about his motive, which I suspect he is, then he should be punished to the same extent and degree as anyone else. If it's determined that he did it to obstruct Congress, that punishment should be additional.

Swing and a miss. I do not support Trump. You leftists pretending that everyone that doesn't immediately agree with you means they want them some Orange Man is probably one of the stupidest assumptions I have ever seen.

Reality: Even among the folks he's leading in the polls with, there is a good chunk that want pretty much anybody but Trump.

While I agree, why hasn't a reporter or someone else taken a picture of the door, signs and the alarm?

Where are the MAGAt nutjobs in Congress when we really need them? Why hasn't Matt, MTG or Boobert take a picture of the door and posted it on social media?

It was Saturday, many doors that are unlocked during the week are locked on weekends. He says he thought it would open the door for him, and he was rushing to cast his vote.

That's his story. True, false, I couldn't give a fuck. The only chaos created on Saturday was Republican chaos, tossing a bill out and not even giving Democrats 90 minutes to read it. If this was a stall tactic, good for him, but you will never prove that it was. So stop whining. Maybe focus on the process that dropped a huge spending bill on Congress and then demanded an immediate vote. Tough shit.

And PLEASE stop the 'lives could have been jeopardized' bullshit. People have fire drills all the time, and there are accidental fire alarms all the time. I guarantee I've been through dozens of them. The last one was about a month ago. This whole thing is beyond stupid.

It would help if there was a picture. Agreed the door he tried to open was usually open during the week.

Just a guess, but I'm betting it wasn't the conventional on-the-wall fire alarm that was posted previously. It was probably something like the picture below.

Also agreed the MAGAts are overplaying their hand with the "lives" bullshit and comparing his action to 1/6. It just makes them look dumber than usual when they say or post crap like that.

Well kids coming out of schools today are pretty dumb. :dunno:

Swing and a miss. I do not support Trump. You leftists pretending that everyone that doesn't immediately agree with you means they want them some Orange Man is probably one of the stupidest assumptions I have ever seen.

How is it a stupid assumption, when you all defend him and never criticize anything he does?

Reality: Even among the folks he's leading in the polls with, there is a good chunk that want pretty much anybody but Trump.

Wait a minute.... there are one dozen other GOP primary candidates aside from Trump.

Trump is leading them all amongst the same Republican primary voters to which you referred.

Yet, according to you, a "good chunk" of these very same voters...

....who have as I said, a dozen other candidates to choose from, but they still back Trump...

...."want pretty much anybody but Trump".

Take a few minutes and mull that  over for awhile.

See if you detect a flaw in the logical flow of your thought process on the matter.

And you say MY assumptions about who you support are the stupidest you've ever heard???? :palm:

And strike two, swing and a miss. I am very clear that I do not support and will not vote for Trump. Your imagination comes up with this "defend him" stuff. I do think that the Democrats are abusing the judicial system to bend it to their political will, but that doesn't mean I would vote for a man who suggested that we should suspend the constitution after he lost an election. Biden will get my scorn, constantly, but scorn for Biden does not equal love for Trump that's your own TDS on display.

Maybe the kids would believe him then. But unlikely. He didn't pull that thing and rush over to vote either, which pretty much tells me he was waiting there to pull it to delay the vote and interfere with the process. As I said, at some point they'll either release the video or they'll be forced to in the future after nobody cares anymore after a FOIA request. Either way I don't think his actions will support his lie. No former principal of a school whose district requires a dozen fire drills a year thinks that pulling the fire alarm is the way to unlock a door when you are in a rush to vote. They held open a vote that normally takes 15 minutes for over an hour because they had to evacuate. The Fire Department was there rather than available to help for medical or an actual emergency because this idiot pretends he thinks fire alarm pulls are lockpicks.

He pulled it, ran outside, didn't tell anyone, got caught and came up with an unreasonable lie like a five year old caught with his hand still in the jar...

Rep. Jamaal Bowman pulls fire alarm ahead of vote to pass short-term funding bill
WASHINGTON — The House Administration Committee is investigating why Rep. Jamaal Bowman, D-N.Y., pulled a fire alarm in a Capitol office building on Saturday, according to a post on social media by the committee.

Bowman’s office acknowledged he pulled the alarm, but suggested it was unintentional.

“Congressman Bowman did not realize he would trigger a building alarm as he was rushing to make an urgent vote,” the spokesperson said in a statement. “The Congressman regrets any confusion.”

"Rep. Jamal Bowman pulled a fire alarm in Cannon this morning," an account controlled by the Republicans on the House Administration Committee wrote on X, the website formerly known as Twitter, including spelling the congressman's first name incorrectly. "An investigation into why it was pulled is underway."

The post was signed by committee Chairman Bryan Steil, R-Wis.

The U.S. Capitol Police did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The fire alarm sounded in the Cannon office building, which is connected to the Capitol via an underground tunnel, as the Republicans were trying to begin a vote on a 45-day spending measure to keep the government open.......

===============================

What is this high school? It is against the law to falsely pull a fire alarm. I hope he gets prosecuted to the full extent of the law. It is also against the law to disrupt official proceeding. Where have we heard that before:thinking:

That's okay.

He has a (D) after his name, so no penalty for his action.

No doubt CNN has called Donald Trump a racist because Bowman did this.

I've never seen an example of you saying anything critical of Trump or his crimes.

Apparently you believe his lies and denials.

That's not far from supporting him and easily gives one the impression that you do.

Consider that next time you berate someone for assuming you're Trump supporter.

democrats are not subject to laws.

Besides, Bowman is the preferred race.
Thanks for being the proof in the pudding, Down Under.

UN rights expert urges Australians to stand up against country's 'alarming' hate speech and racism
The United Nations human rights expert on contemporary forms of racism today urged all Australians – from the Government to the media and civil society – to stand up against “alarming” hate speech and racism racial discrimination in the country, especially against indigenous people, refugees, migrants, and Muslims.

“The elimination of racism, xenophobia and discrimination will not happen unless it is led by the most senior political leadership and unless institutions such as the media play a constructive role,” Mutuma Ruteere said in a news release at the end of a visit to the country.

Mr. Ruteere urged the authorities and the government to respect and support diversity in Australia, where every second person is either born overseas or has a parent born outside the country. He also encouraged the Australian Human Rights Commission to continue their efforts towards equality.

“Indigenous people are disproportionately targeted by the criminal justice system, with high rates of juvenile incarceration and police profiling. The current policing of indigenous communities is too punitive and need an urgent change as its consequences can only lead to even further devastation of these communities,” said Mr. Ruteere about the many challenges that these groups face.

“Indigenous peoples are three times more likely to experience unemployment, they remain at the margin of economic progress and prosperity,” he added….

Then you've spent all your time here only reading your own posts. Again. I am not going to vote for Trump under any circumstances. I was done with him the moment he suggested we suspend the constitution. I also am not going to vote for Democrats as I believe that they and theirs are willing to sell America's soul and irretrievably damage the trust we have in her institutions solely to punish one man they think of as the avatar of all things Republican.

I speak against Dementia Joe because I believe that there are enough Democrats out there (not here, obviously but out there) that see what I am saying and want someone else and want this to stop. They believe in the constitution. I believe that some even believe more in the constitution than they do in their party and would be willing to go in a different direction in order to save the US.

What idea it gives you is irrelevant. What idea it gives any ethics or other investigation is what’s important.

So, why don’t you fucks let this inconsequential incident go until they figure it out? The CR was passed. Move on
