Reid apologizes for 'no Negro dialect' comment

evince has no credibility. she forgives dems racism because it occurred in the past....yet she holds the gop accountable for racism that occurred nearly 30 years ago...

No one is "spinning" Lott, his comments do not include so much as a mention of segregation, or Strom's record as a supporter of segregation. You've got at least two people here who didn't think Lott was talking about segregation, yet you continue to insist this was a 100% conclusion by all. It simply wasn't a conclusion made by all, and Lott repeatedly said he didn't intend the comment to be taken that way, and apologized profusely for any misunderstanding.

You're concerned with being the best little liberal hack you can be for your level of retardation! You're not fooling anyone! When you "disapprove" of something, it is empty words you don't really mean, but feel you have to say because it bails you out of trouble! Like when you "renounced" Obama's military actions, but maintained you would still support him for re-election because you aren't a 'one issue' voter! This is how you can justify your hypocrisy... how you can make it 100% about segregation even though Lott didn't mention it and denied it fervently... while Reid outright says 'Obama doesn't talk like he's black'... and THAT is a case of the PC police being over the top!

And just to show us what a swell impartial guy you are, you don't think EITHER case is a big deal.... well that's just great, now that Trent Lott has long-since resigned his leadership role, and Reid plans to hang on to his!

That is not what Reid said. Reid said Obama was a 'light skinned person who didnt speak with a Negro dialect'

Which clearly means 'he is almost white and speaks pretty good for a negro so he might be able to pull this off'. That is clearly what Reid meant. That this here negro might be white enough and speak white enough to get elected.

This is hilarious. What "problems" do you think Lott was referring to, when he said that we should have elected Thurmond? Do you know what Thurmond & the Dixiecrats stood for back then....what their raison d'etre was?

Unbelievable! You guys need to give it up. Lott was talking about segregation.

As for Reid, I hope he DOES step down. The guy sucks as a leader...

Your a hypocrite! Senator Byrd was a dixiecrat and a KKK member so no one better ever wish him a happy birthday or talk in positive terms about his time in the senate...right?

Interesting perspective. Personally, I take any praise for Strom Thurmond to be distasteful but I suspect I'd be in the minority on that one. If Trent Lott got up on Strom's 100 birthday and praised him generally, I doubt you would have heard a single word about it, but praising Strom specifically for his run for presidency on a segregationist platform is an entirely different matter altogether.

When a Democrat praises Byrd for what he did 40 years ago you'd have a point. Until then . . .

Any praise for Byrd's time in office includes everything he did, supported, or believed in...same as thanking Strom for his service. Byrd was a suporter of the same philosophy as Thurmond...PERIOD!
