Republican PC police...

lots of dems want him to, like me. He's a spineless jellyfish.
Could there be anybody less tough as a Senate leader? really

I am with you on that, but he should not be ousted for this reason...

What silly PC bullshit is that.... These Republicans are out of control.

I get what Reid was saying but Jarod you must be living in a lilly white world if you are calling it PC and don't understand the meaning behind a statement like that.

What I find funniest is some are comparing this to Trent Lott when Lott said the US would have been a better place is Strom "Jim Crow" Thurmond was elected president.

So you can tell us what Reid MEANT when he opened his yap?

You can see into another man's heart and discern the MEANING behind his words?

What do you mean by "the meaning behind a statement like that?"

kind of what I was saying earlier, this idea that if you don't talk black you aren't really black and you are trying to act white. The idea that one has to act and behave a certain way to be considered black.

Be prepared to be called a Dem apologist hack for disagreeing with that assessment. Apparently, not only is what Reid said comparable to what Lott said, but Reid's comments are worse that Lott's.

lol... you too huh?

What Reid said was plain. 'light colored (aka almost white) and doesn't speak with a Negro dialect (aka... sounds like a white person)'

While Strom was a strong segregationist at the time of his Presidential run... you are STILL reading into Lotts comment to get 'it would have been great because he was a segregationist'

Explain it to me like I am a two year old... What was racist about it!!!?

I don't think he was saying that you have to talk a certain way to be black; rather, he was saying black people have to talk a certain way to be accepted by the majority-white American electorate.

I don't think he was off-base in his assessment. His use of archaic language was offensive but the more I think about it the "light-skinned" comments bothers me more than the use of "Negro dialect."

I do not belive that is what he was saying, but even if it was, that is still not racist. It is true that if you do not act a certian way, some black people will not accept you into there community... Especally if you are half white.

And while Lott should not have had to resign... Reid should!

I agree. Had BHO spoken with a more street dialect he would never have been elected.

People within the black community have discriminated for years against darker skinned blacks compared to lighter-skinned blacks. Interesting internal dynamic.

Reid wasn't wrong in what he said. It just gets viewed differently when a white person says it (even if it is true) than a black person.

Agreed....

YOu can just as easily get out of what Reid said that lots of white American's would not have voted for a black man that spoke like Chris Rock. Even Chris Rock on his comedy special that was recorded BEFORE the election said that Obama's blackness sneaks up on you. And that means exactly what I said it means. If Obama had a strong ethnic blackness about him he would have never got passed the primaries. Just pointing out what is still wrong with America.

Chris Rock also talks about living in a community where there are exactly 5 black families, Him, Eddy Murphy, Jay Z, Mary J. Blige and one other. He talked about the fact that all these entertainers are the top of their game. He said a black man has to fly to a place that white men need only walk. His neighbor is white, and a dentist. He said for a black dentist to get into the community he lives in he would have had to invent teeth. Something white people just don't get.

Chris Rock is also black. He is 'allowed' to discuss someone's level of 'blackness'.
