Evince is such a prolific poster here!

In light of the recent revelations that this sort of idea is acceptable in America, I just wanted to take this opportunity to say, I think evince (aka: Desh) is such a profound and prolific poster on this forum because she avoids speaking in a negro dialect. Her posts sound almost as if they were typed by a white person, which is why she remains so very relevant here. There is no doubt, if she were to post in negro dialect, most of us would readily reject what she had to say, because we all know that would be a sure sign of ignorance.

I think it's great that negro posters like evince can articulate their thoughts in a more white way, and avoid speaking like a negro, because I think it helps to bolster her credibility. There is nothing more ignorant sounding than someone trying to make a point using negro dialect, and it is a great time to applaud Senator Harry Reid for making it okay to say that! I think more negro people should listen to Harry Reid and follow the example of evince here, and try to avoid talking like a negro, because it helps to keep people from thinking you are ignorant. It is particularly important for you to do this if you are a light-skinned negro, because we can somewhat excuse the ignorant negro dialect of negroes with darker skin. Yes, being light skinned and talking like a white person is the key to negro success in America! Bravo evince! Bravo Harry Reid!

Dixie, you are sounding like an idiot in continuing this nonsense.

Are you going to deny that a black dialect exists? Are you going to argue that a black man with a strong black dialect would be as easy to get elected to a national office as would another black man with no discernible dialect?

what is a black dialect? talking hood?

I loved when Howard Stern would play that game on his show guess the race of the person talking.

I remember some dude on the stand in the O.J. trial getting cross examined and ripped by Johnnie Cochran after saying he thought he heard a black voice outside Nicole's condo.

No one is going to get elected sounding gangsta or ghetto that's for sure.

As far as sounding educated that would work pretty well.

And thank you Dixie for proving stupidity knows no language barrier.

Of course he is because he is obtuse.

Continuing what nonsense? I mean, Harry Reid, your Senatorial leader, has come right out and said exactly what I just said, and it doesn't apparently seem to be that big of a deal to anyone on the left. I think it's great, we can just put it right out there and admit we feel this way about blacks who talk with negro dialect!

Wow... and they said Obama would break down the racial barriers in America! I didn't believe them, but it appears they may have been correct about that! Who would have ever thought we would be able to openly talk about the ignorant sounding negro dialect and how it benefits blacks (especially lighter-skinned ones) in the public arena, to speak like white folks?

winterborn seems to know what a so called black dialect is....

He didn't say anything about how he feels about blacks. He was talking about what made Obama electable. And the lack of a black dialect is part and parcel of that.

Did Reid say that the black dialect sounded ignorant? You adding that is does not make it a fact. It simply shows the depths to which you will sink to try and make this an issue.

Dixie, outside of the entertainment industry or sports industry, how many very successful blacks have a strong black accent?

I love this thread.

I think I'm gonna bump this like a mad for the next few months...

I'm glad you like it! I hope you do bump it, I will help you as much as I can! I think we need to work together to inform all people who are black about this, because I think many of them may just be too ignorant to realize it! They might actually think it's racist to suggest that speaking in negro dialect makes you sound ignorant. It might have actually been offensive to them if Harry Reid had not established the point so eloquently!

Oh, well... that's easy to explain.... Like Trent Lott, it's not what Reid said, it's what he IMPLIED! He MEANT that blacks who speak with negro dialect are seen as ignorant, and if they have darker skin, even MORE ignorant. We've already established it's okay to arbitrarily assign intent and inference to what politicians actually say, that's acceptable now!

come on winterborn....

what is a black accent? deep south? uneducated? wtf are you talking about? out in cali we have slang accents...slang accents don't get jobs, no matter your skin color....apparently where you live, it is all based on race

I don't know when you decided it was acceptable to make such leaps, but I have not made any such decision.

I am not a fan of Reid. But this entire fiasco is ridiculous. Reid spoke about what helped get Obama elected. And he is absolutely right.

Where I live, the slang is different amoung different groups. I have not said that all blacks have it, nor have I said only blacks have it.

I simply said that there was a distinct dialect or accent to many blacks.

Well, if he was right, then why is it wrong to say it? I mean, what's the problem? Something that is right, it shouldn't be wrong to articulate, should it? Reid's contention is, Obama was seen favorably by the public because he didn't speak with a negro dialect, and because he was light skinned! If that is what you believe and you think he is right, why are you getting mad at me for saying it? I thought we were making progress.... now I am puzzled... can you explain what the difference is between what I have said and what Harry Reid implied?

Wow, so you think Harry Reid is an idiot??? That's odd, since he is the leader of your party!

Dixie, you're the only person here who would confuse me for a Democrat. Yes, I think Harry Reid, much like yourself, is dumber than a sack of potato peels.

I know you love to take an opportunity like this to try and point to how the dialect of one group of people is ethnic, rather than regional, and point it out to try and widen the commonality gap between people. But ya see Dixie, you're wrong. The said "negro" dialect is more accurately known as "hood" or "ghetto". If you grew up in a urban area in the last 30 years, you know how to speak and understand most of it, whether or not you choose to partake or admit it. It's not confined to any one race, and I can safely testify. I grew up and currently live in Detroit. I've met hundreds of Poles, Italians, various Slavs, Mexicans, Greeks, Arabs, and Jews who speak ghetto, and plenty of Caribs, Jamaicans, Africans, Etc. who don't choose to speak ghetto. Ghetto even changes as you change regions, from north to south, east to west. It's a regional dialect, not an ethnic one.

Further, your assumption that people who choose to speak ghetto are less educated (or unable to present themselves coherently and intelligently) is ridiculous. One needs look no further than your own posts to see such assumptions fly in the face of empirical evidence, both anecdotal and statistical. And not to mention the combination of those two assumptions shows more than a hint of bigotry.

All in all, you're a failure here.
